Okay but the most amazing thing about Black Sails is that they get you hooked on this amazing fucking show with all this intricate story and these badass characters and like it’s all pirates and gore and sex and yeah there’s lesbian sex but you know how fucking straight men are so whatever they can overlook it since it’s still an amazing pirate show for the dudebros and it’s all focused around this fucking beast of a man who is fucking unkillable and always has a plan like PEAK male perfection then a season and a half in they drop the hammer that he’s gay and his motivation the whole time has just been to fulfill his boyfriend’s dream like

listen we’re always pushing back against anti-vaxxers with the science showing that no, vaccines don’t cause autism, but can we please talk about the underlying problem here which is that people hate autistic children?

even if the poorly researched pseudo-science was right and vaccines had any link to autism in children, i would still want myself and my children vaccinated because guess what, there’s nothing wrong with autistic people.

what i hear when people say they don’t want their children vaccinated against deadly illnesses because they believe that vaccines cause autism is not just that they’re horribly misinformed, but that they’d rather have a sick, dying, or dead child than an autistic child. and honestly, that’s pretty fucked up and just goes to show that neurotypical people don’t view us as people who are equally entitled to life.

i think one of the biggest problems i have with getting stuff done is i assume it’s easy for other people. like “she gets up at six every morning because she’s a morning person” or “yeah, he can run five miles every day but he likes running” or “she knows five languages, her brains just wired differently than mine” when in reality it’s all about discipline for everyone. like yeah, some people have natural aptitudes for some things but anyone that’s accomplishing anything is putting in the work. achievements don’t come easy, and i think if i start acknowledging that it’s like that for everyone i can stop making excuses

We as a society need to discuss why it’s considered necessary for a woman to take a man’s name in a marriage, and why it is considered degrading the other way around. Take a minute to think about that: things that are considered necessary for women are degrading for men. It shows how society views women when you think of that.

At one of my school reunions, I met one of my former classmates who had taken his wife’s surname. He was so chill about it. Told everyone very proudly that his wife was an only child (and so was her father and grandfather) so if she’d taken his last name or even if they’d hyphenated, she’d be the last of her family so he’d happily taken her name so that wouldn’t happen.

The funny thing about it was that he was such a sexist piece of shit when he was at school. So, you know, people can grow and change.

My mother kept her last name when she married my father, and he hyphenated, but ONLY because he had a son from his first marriage and he wanted for his son to share his last name too, else he’d taken my mother’s.
