smartest cat ever!
Joy and whimsy detected! This post is joyful and whimsical!
what I've learned from having other people edit my work is that I have a sick addiction to commas
there have been four editing passes on my spider sex book, and each time they take away so many commas. no fresh commas are being added, this is just a continued culling. if you see a comma in the final book please understand that it survived so much
for real tho it feels exhausting that ive seen this whole "woman should be allowed to abstain from X beauty standard" -> "i perform X beauty standard, am i evil? do you think im evil? please forgive me i came up with a dozen excuses 🥺" since like 2015 (and i know its been going on longer than that) like girl thats not the poiiiiint
look me in the eyes. repeat after me. "i face societal pressure to perform this beauty standard. i should not face that pressure. i conform to this standard. i am rewarded for performing to this standard. i need to respect women who do not perform this standard. this is not about whether or not i am a sinner for wearing makeup."
rich in life because i get to eat my favorite meals, rich in life because it rains, rich in life because i have my friends, rich in life because i get to listen to my favorite songs, rich in life because i woke up today

how it feels to talk about anything at all
if you use your voice to uplift and protect others, thank you.
if you use your voice to defend people from harm by their own peers, thank you.
if you use your voice to remind people they are worthy and loved, thank you.
if you use your voice to share a hopeful story when people need it most, thank you.
if you use your voice to admire others' strengths, and accept their weaknesses, thank you.
if you use your voice to add kindness and goodness to this world, thank you; thank you for being you in a world that is too often confusing, stressful, or cruel.
the world will always need people like you. anyone who tells you something different is only projecting their weaknesses onto you. if someone devalues your heart, that is not your fault.
you have done well so far. thank you for being here. i hope you can see just how much your presence means to others and get to cherish those moments of connection forever, even long after they've happened.
washing dishes is evil because you go "oh fuck there's so many dishes this is gonna take foreverrr" and then you enter the dish abyss and emerge with your abdomen somehow covered in water and your hands all wrinky and then you look at the clock and what felt like half an hour was actually 10 minutes
Hey you can’t really like. Do anything about somebody perceiving your behavior as rude. Like they’re not telling you you’re doing something illegal they’re just saying hey you’re kinda being a shithead. It’s not discrimination or oppression for somebody to tell you you’re acting like a shithead rn.
“Wahhh why can’t I blare my TikToks in a shared public space!”
You CAN dude. In fact you ARE. You’re just going to be perceived as kinda shitty for it.
I’m pretty sure this is also the same kind of person who is physically compelled to get on someone else’s post and explain why THEY PERSONALLY have the One Correct Reason to not listen to rap or eat at Chik-fil-A or use ChatGPT or or or or. They obsessively crave universal validation so they don’t have to confront the fact that their actions have consequences and also say things about their character.
There is a really huge gap between "illegal" and "socially unacceptable". It's actually a mark of a free society that people can legally do things that don't cause significant harm to others, even though most people hate those things. Examples include cheating on your spouse and playing TikTok videos loudly in public spaces.

I think the types of oppression that are the most intense are the ones that apply to me personally. For some reason they're just so much more visceral and personally affecting than the ones that don't affect me, which all seem distant and abstract and not as big a deal. If you don't restructure your worldview around this I will decide you're part of the problem.
Visual representation of listening to a popular song when you heard the Weird Al version first
let's all have fun because it's better than not having fun
Every time I'm forced by circumstance to hand-sew something, I remember a fairytale I once read. There are lead-up shenanigans as the humble protagonist helps small animals and meets the princess and all that, but in the climax, the princess rigs a contest for her hand by setting her own task: sew her a dress in a single night.
The noble suitors, who have never sewn a thing in their lives, sabotage themselves by their own ambitions: they choose difficult fabrics to work with and cut huge, elaborate patterns and select gems and pearls and beads to sew onto it, and snip such long bits of thread that they lose time detangling their stitches, and ultimately resort to pinning bits together as they run out of time, so that their offerings initially look beautiful and flashy, but when the princess tries them on they stick her with pin ends and fall apart as she moves.
The humble protagonist uses a very simple pattern without embellishments and sews using short lengths of thread (snipped off and threaded for him by little birds of course) which don't tangle and therefore save time. His dress is plain by contrast, but holds together and the princess is able to move freely in it, and so he wins the contest and her hand.
I particularly think about the bit about threading the needle with shorter lengths of thread, needing to tie off more often but avoiding tangles and thereby saving time.
I then ignore that piece of wisdom passed down through who knows how many years and proceed to cut the longest damn length of thread I can manage because I hate tying off beginning or ending knots and I will not subject myself to more of that even if it does mean more tangles along the way.
As a (machine) sewist who hates hand-sewing but who also has vaulting ambitions of embroidered and beaded garments, and who always uses enormously long threads to avoid tying off, I'm apparently never going to marry a princess.
"Wahh I got stabbed by your pinned-together garment" It's built-in acupuncture ok!!!! It's a feature not a flaw!!!

it's extremely funny reading historical accounts of Spontaneous Human Combustion because it follows the normal historical trend of other 1800s paranormal phenomena where it stopped happening as much right around the time cameras were invented and stopped happening entirely when everyone started carrying mini cameras in their pockets, but unlike most others of its ilk, it was effectively replaced by this mysterious phenomena where alocoholics would spill liqour on themselves and then fall asleep smoking a cigarette and turn into a fireball. nobody knows if these two things are related
There are several other reasons why all the supernatural happenings of the 1800s (spontaneous human combustion in particular) tapered off.
People stopped wallpapering their homes with stuff that exuded mild hallucinogenics.
People got a lot better about realizing black mold existed, black mold probably shouldn't exist in their house, and preventing black mold from existing in their house.
People stopped lighting their homes with gas flames, which meant they no longer had sprawling conduits of leaky gas tubing throughout every room of their house that tended to outgas even when not lit.
People stopped (and I am being very serious, this is just what (some?) people did) filling washing tubs full of gasoline and using the gasoline to scrub out persistent stains from their clothes they'd then put on and wear while smoking cigarettes by the giant open hearth that provided most of the heat of their parlor room.
(Honestly, between ghost photography, "Sherlock Holmes and The Case of the Dancing Faeries", and inadvertent double-exposures, it took a few years before cameras started reducing the amount of strange happenings instead of increasing them.)
Washing clothes with gasoline or kerosene was the forerunner of modern dry-cleaning, so not entirely as crazy as it sounds. Nowadays, of course, we use non-flammable chemicals, but PCE was not widely available in the 1800s
Hey. Heyhey. Do me a favor real quick.
If you don't already know you have issues doing so, squat down real quick. Bend your knees all the way and touch the floor. Just make sure you can do it. Okay? For me? And then stand up all the way and make sure you can balance on one foot.
Like. You don't need to blow it into some huge thing. Just. Make sure all your bits and peices still work the way you think they do.
Can you turn your head to look behind you without twisting your shoulders? What about standing on your toes? If you sit down on the floor can you get back up without using your hands?
If there was ever a tumblr post worth sending to your mom, it's this one.
Just saying, bodies are a use it or lose it kinda thing.
okay so every time I see this post crop back up in queues and notifications I end up thinking about it. Because I made the post and even I'm still doing the thing where I read the post about maintaining range of motion in my delicate meatsuit and I nod and hmm and think yeah that's a good idea and then dont move from where I'm curled up shrimp style staring at the nightmare rectangle.
So like. Thinking real hard about moving doesn't count as moving. Major bummer. Anyways. Joints.
coming out of the tags for once to chip in some two cents as a massage therapist (in a country that requires two years of college training): forget a post worth sending to your mom, y'all in your 30s and 20s and younger have GOT to start moving
Peace and love fam but your mysterious chronic lower back pain is coming from tight glutes and an anterior pelvic tilt because you sit too much. your sciatic pain is piriformis syndrome and can be fixed in fifteen.
your chronic headaches and upper back pain are because you work/play at a desk and shrimp when you're relaxing. the "lump" on the top of your spine is your bones in the wrong place trying to hold up your head.
You don't have "knots", you have weak muscle fibers thunking over slouching shoulder blades
the aching in your wrists is tight forearm flexors, the popping in your neck is tight scalenes, your knees make noise like that because you aren't regularly putting them through their full range of motion
you have no obligation to be an athlete but I am begging you (and I say this looking into a mirror, I am not blameless) to do like babies do and just. move around. often
your pain is not a sign of age. it is a sign of stillness
