The sharp edges of the invitation card threaten to prick through your skin as you grip it too tightly. Seokjin and Soyeon are currently skipping about the office, merrily handing out an invitation to every co-worker insight to their fabulous Valentine’s Day party they’ll be throwing. 

“And we got it approved by the big man to host it here! Everyone must come!” Soyeon’s shrill voice echoes throughout the padded cubicles. 

A groan slips past your lips before you can stop it. Normally you’d be down for office parties and festivities, you’re a fun gal after all. But the idea of attending a Valentine’s Day party that your ex-boyfriend is hosting with his “newer and better other half” just doesn’t sound as appealing as one might think.

You desperately want to crumple the invitation in your fist and you outwardly seethe as Soyeon clutches onto Seokjin’s chest as she leans into him with laughter, him naturally moving with her, chest rumbling before placing a passionate kiss on the top of her head. In a gross quirky fashion, Soyeon kicks up one of her feet, giggling with each second Seokjin’s lips are on her skin. 

Her stupid gorgeous skin that glows when the sun shines through the windows.

You hate her stupid skin, the sun should burn her, not make her look like an angel descending upon this earth.

Which, she totally acts like on a daily basis, sunshine or not.

All you can do is remind yourself that you are a better person than your hostile instincts and negative thoughts want you to be.

Taking in a deep breath, you slowly exhale through your nose, lowering the invitation painstakingly slow and delicately placing it to the side of your desk. You will show no weaknesses. They will not get to you.

The persistent sound of chirping crickets awakens you from your light slumber. A heavy arm is weighing you down while another caves into your backside, fully immersing you in the warm embrace of another. When you open your eyes you notice the darkness of the night sky, the peaceful swaying of the trees that shadow over you blocking the beautiful stars above. 

It’s a mystery to you how long you’ve been out here now; your phone is somewhere in the pile of belongings on the ground, and Changbin’s watch is strategically placed under your rear end at the moment. All you know is that now it’s night time, and you’re unsure when you fell asleep in the first place.

The hammock gently sways as you adjust your body to a sitting position. Normally you wouldn’t want to wake Changbin up when he’s actually getting some sleep, but you’re in the middle of the woods, at god knows what hour. The whooshing sound of the hammock fills your ears as he begins to stir in his sleep. You’re hoping that your small movements were enough to wake him up, but once you turn your head to look at him, he’s still fast asleep.

For the fourth time this week, you’re back in the pro shop to get your skates sharpened – and it’s not because they’re anywhere near dull. There’s a new guy that has started working at the rink recently and you’re using every chance you have to get close to him.

His name is Felix. He hasn’t formally introduced himself yet (he’s a bit of an awkward guy) but his name tag told you so. The first time you saw him you nearly tripped over every word that spat from your mouth; and now the butterflies in your tummy have been acting up ever since. His delicate features and deep voice have you swooning at his presence, you just hope that you aren’t too obvious about it.

“Yeah, I think they’re wearing unevenly,” you sheepishly smile, handing over the pristine white skates in your hand. He nods as he accepts them, quietly examining the blades to see their condition. As usual, they’re nearly perfect, but he’ll play along and run them through the sharpener instead of making a fuss.

Felix disappears to the back to sharpen your skates just to return moments later. It usually doesn’t take too long, especially when you’re the only customer in the store. But even though it’s just the two of you here it doesn’t make your sad attempts at flirting any less embarrassing.

It’s the bottom of the fifth inning and Seokjin cannot wait for the day to be over. It’s hot, more so than ever before and it feels like he has to wipe the sweat off his forehead every twenty seconds or so. Soon enough, he won’t be able to see where he’s pitching.

Spitting out a buffalo flavored sunflower seed to his right, he re-positions his hat, nearly taking over his eyebrows. It can’t possibly go any lower and he’s wasting valuable time.

The catcher has been throwing out basic plays that Seokjin has seen a million times. The kid knows he can’t throw a decent knuckleball anymore. His specialty has switched to a ninety-seven mile-per-hour fastball. At least, that’s how fast it was three years ago.

The mitt smells sour against his nose as he finally nods his head. The pitcher, Park Jimin, readies himself.

Deep breath, the roar of the crowd stills into a faint white noise as he lowers the mitt and the ball to his chest. As a pitcher, it’s important to have a signature move. Some have claimed his technique is too predictable; but those who comment, aren’t the ones on the field.

Seokjin rocks back his left shoulder, his right rolling up towards his ear before making a rowing motion with the mitt and ball back to the right, the ball in his left hand leaving the comforts of the mitt. Left knee kicking up in front of his body, Seokjin releases his breath and winds up, the last of his energy exploding as the ball leaves his hand and spirals down towards home.

So each autumn season you dedicate it to spending as much time with each other as possible, which isn’t very hard with all the things to do. Last weekend was apple picking, next is a pumpkin carving, and this weekend you’re attending the county fair. 

With smells of kettle corn and cotton candy filling the air, your stomach is already beginning to growl with hunger. It’s nearly impossible not to want to eat everything in sight here – especially when there are rows upon rows of options. 

But you couldn’t eat just yet, not until you’ve gone on the ferris wheel, at least. That was the one ride that always made you feel queasy. The height of the ride and unsteady mechanics of the ride has always been worrisome to you, but it’s Seungmin’s favorite, and you know that he won’t let you leave without taking at least one ride.

This time, his eyes grow wide, grin slowly spreading across his cheeks. It doesn’t look genuine, almost eerie in nature. He leans forward, barely a foot away from your face. Your eyes look to the moles covering his face, before you meet his eyes. You always loved how dark they are, but they’re almost translucent now, a light brown color.

“I’m here to protect you, of course.” He raises his hand, you shivering as he trails his hand along your face. “Don’t you trust me?”
