too pretty to be useful

          she shakes her head at his attempt to make her feel better, “adrian,” she turns her head, her cheeks shining with tears, “don’t tempt me to be dumb.” god, she just wants to forget. she knows adrian won’t let her drink to the point of forgetting. she’s happy when he drunkenly leans into her dark hair. 

           “when have i ever been a girl talk kind of girl?” she tries to wipe her tears away and when he presses a kiss to her temple she hums. he is such a disaster, and she can almost understand the need to be drunk and buzzed of nicotine for the majority of the day. she understands now, that the darkness has a grip on them both. 

             and she never wanted that for him. 

            rose wants to tell him to shower and have a glass of water, to go clean up and they can go out to breakfast, but she’s too sad just now to even think about leaving this little cocoon. “what i WANT to do… it’s a lot worse than chugging a bottle of liquor.” she wants to run away and kill the only man she ever loved. she wiggles her fingers at the bottle, which he’d put out of reach, she can feel a soft tingling buzz building from the two rather long pulls she’d had. 

           she curls into him, expecting him to pull away, “adrian, don’t pull away from me. i’ve never needed you, and now you don’t need me. i just want someone to hold me.” the sniffles consume her again and her head rests on his lean chest, listening to his heartbeat.  

        "you’re asking the impossible, rose. i’m not exactly that one to talk you out of dumb things.” though he tried so hard to remain level-headed for this, for her. goes to show that she meant a lot to him, though he knew enough that she came here to do stuff she’d like to regret the next morning. but that does it make him the better option than her going after a monster? he couldn’t help but entertain the thought, but alas he’s got enough grasp of reality not to let that tumble out his lips.

           “rose,” and it was no laughing matter so he offered her a sad smile, his fingers gently grazing her tear-smeared cheeks. he reached for the box of tissues on the coffee table and handed it to her. “i-” and what would he say? that he was sorry she was hurting? that he was sorry he only reminded her of the worst case scenario?

           “anything could be worse than a bottle of liquor.” his lips crooked a smirk, “trust me - for me, that is the best case scenario.” he chuckled, “but you’ve got your guardian duties and all that proper stuff you gotta attend to.... you’re better than this. you’re better than me.” stronger, more level-headed, had more reserve than he will ever have.

“That’s okay, I’ve got a great sense of direction.” It’s a horrible lie and he knows it, but optimism, right? He looks around. “You’re supposed to follow the sun or something, right?” 

“I think that’s meant to be the star - but whatever.” The optimism was just exactly what he needed to dampen his inner panic. Either way, the sense of unknown was somewhat exhilarating. “I’ll drive and you lead the way, how’s that sound?” 

“humans in dark alleys usually carry something,  “ for somebody who prided himself on being street savvy, sydney noticed that he didn’t know much about human habits.  “ you’re lucky it wasn’t worse. “ she smiles a little at that, but that doesn’t excuse the situation, “ what else, happened?”   a pause, before she regards him; he’s an idiot, but she married him, so WHAT does that say? she’s lucky she’s no squeamish.  “ can you try and heal anything INTERNAL, please?”

“i’m an evil creature of the night - they SHOULD fear me.” but even then, he looked far from threatening despite the fangs that poked on the corners of his lips. the wound indeed looked worse than it actually was, some deep tissue damage but not life-threatening. he bunched the fresh washcloth over it, groaning as he applied pressure to stop his own bleeding, but wasn’t really achieving much. “sure sage, i’ll just will my body to fix itself ASAP.” she didn’t deserve his sarcasm, but he was in a lot of pain to say the least. “the asshole’s tried to take my wedding ring. ‘course i can’t give it up!”
