All of a sudden, Sherlock heard movement a few yards off. He tried to scramble into a tree, but climbing was never his strong suit, and he fell back to the ground just as the person approached.

Dylan sighed, pushing his hair up, kinda slicking it back, looking up, eyes narrowed. Least the rain wasn't heavy, more so a drizzle. He could deal with that better; rain wasn't bad, he'd been in it plenty, he'd just gotten comfortable to not being wet. More used to that now.

He heard sone noise and looked over quickly, on alert. His eye scanned the area, head tilting slowly as he began to walk in the direction to inspect; what did he have to lose?

I had this whole thing with the Devil, technically sold my soul to him 'n when I got it back fair 'n square, he wouldn't let go, multiple times. So, in the end I stole my souls contract after I uh, died the first time.❞

He hummed, ❝Since then my looks have changed 'n that's when I could shapeshift. It used to jus' happen when I was like, frightened or panicked, now I can have it happen randomly.❞

Dylan shrugged and turned back to his normal form. ❝... it is what it is, really my own kinda fault. I've died more times than I can count, 'm jus' stubborn.❞

As they walked inside, it was a pretty cozy place... a fireplace, a couch, a rocking chair, a small shelf of books, a kitchen to the right, and a hallway to the left of what could be assumed rooms. There was a gaint dog bed in the living room, where three hounds were asleep curled up with each other, occasionally kicking one another. A cat lay on the top of the couch, purring.

Dylan assumed Scrap, Bata were with Huron and Buck in their room, and Vulcan and Fang, the mice, pip were in the shared boys room. He turned to Sherlock, smile still on.

❝Ya want the couch or I can get a mattress out for ya? Oh, are ya hungry at all?❞

Dylan looked to the hounds, blinking. He was silent for a moment then smiled sheepishly and looked back to Sherlock. ❝'m gonna be so honest, I only remember the girls name, Pandora... I do NOT remember the others.❞

Chance sniffed in the direction of Sherlock, ears perked.

Dylan smiled a little easier and shook his head again, ❝Noppeeee. I could take ya into town, or if ya don't wanna pay for a inn, I could take ya to the cabin if you want, but I get bein' around strangers.❞ he chuckled faintly.

Dylan was surprised that the other questioned it, like he was debating. Usually strangers said inn immediately, but hey, maybe theh didn't like to be alone or such.

❝Yeah! Adopted family, found family, whatever you wanna call it.❞ he nodded, rubbing his neck now. ❝Kindaaa??... to be honest, I dunno what homestead really means.❞

He paused his talking to look over in the direction of the trail, blinking a few times. He glanced to the other and seemed to realize the other was.... anxious.

Dylan glanced at Sherlock, a bit confused, then looked back to the deputies and seemed to understand a bit right away.... ahhhh...

He did his best to relax his stance a little, grabbing chances reigns to pull him a little more forward, trying to hint to Sherlock to act like he was searching through the saddlebag, to hide his face a bit.

❝That so? I haven't seen anyone new down 'ere, jus' the usual.❞ he shrugged.

“You sure? Blond kid, tall. Looks like a farmer?” The deputy’s eyes shifted to where Sherlock was hunched over the bag.

Chance glanced at Sherlock, as though eyeing him but then looked back and huffed. Dylan patted his neck, humming. He clicked his tongue once and chuckled. ❝no kiddin'.... blonde kid... tall... blue eyes? Green?❞ he asked, coming up with an idea.

❝Think I've seen 'em! He's been 'round Rhodes a few times, but I think he stays down more south.❞ he hummed, smirking to himself; he was thinking of Gunna, his old 'friend' from the gang. Truly they were on decent terms, but dylan didn't like how he boasted, so might as well cause a little inconvenience to his day.

❝Yessss sirs, be well!!❞ he smiled at them good naturedly and waved; once they were out of sight he shivered and mocked a gag. ❝Blegh, sheriff wannabes...Least they were nice.❞

Dylan gave him a sympathetic look, understanding all too well. He nodded though, glancing back up at the sky that was starting to make rain fall again. ❝'s fine with me, should be fine with my family too if they are there, most likely asleep by now though.❞

He paused his talking to look over in the direction of the trail, blinking a few times. He glanced to the other and seemed to realize the other was.... anxious.

He did his best to relax his stance a little, grabbing chances reigns to pull him a little more forward, trying to hint to Sherlock to act like he was searching through the saddlebag, to hide his face a bit.

❝That so? I haven't seen anyone new down 'ere, jus' the usual.❞ he shrugged.

“You sure? Blond kid, tall. Looks like a farmer?” The deputy’s eyes shifted to where Sherlock was hunched over the bag.
