(Covert) Gallery

An exciting virtual exhibition space created by an artist and curator collective. Creating a new and exciting form of viewing art, with the potential to bring innovative and interesting exhibitions in the form of curated pages and/or videos to the public. By removing physical and practical obstacles (Covert) Gallery aimed to reach a limitless amount of people, bringing international art to the masses, moving with the times and providing a much needed digital and interactive experience of an art exhibition. This experimental gallery had a growing online presence, eager to reach new audiences via a variety of online social media sites within a short window of time, an exploration into the role that the internet now plays within society and Fine Art. Hosting a one off show, Osmosis, consisting of a curated page of artworks which went live on our gallery website, only accessible for the duration of the exhibition (April 2013). An experiment by University students, (Covert) Gallery and Osmosis remain as an archive site, and a platform for ideas.. Featuring works by established British artists, catalogues remain available via the website now that the show has closed. www.covertgallery.org

An Artist A Day: Lucy Cade

Often based on old family photos, film stills or ‘found images’ from magazines, Lucy Cade transfers photographs into paintings colour by colour, shape by shape, accentuating their reality or unreality by working creatively with the generalizing eye of the camera. The essence of a person or a moment in time is drawn out through subtle distortions and changes, reductions and abstractions. The faces recede or emerge from the haze of memory. The mood created is one that suggests an existence constantly on the verge of an uncertain revelation, in the tantalising manner in which memories often hover at the back of the mind, suggesting everything and revealing nothing.
