Let me preface this with: I am fine. I’m going to be fine. I got lucky because my friends were there to help. I would say “this sort of thing doesn’t happen to people like me,” but the truth is there’s not a certain kind of person it happens to. It just happens because there are shitty people in the world. DO NOT GO TO CROWN VICTORIA BAR IN WILLIAMSBURG. DO NOT GO TO CROWN VICTORIA BAR IN WILLIAMSBURG. DO NOT GO TO CROWN VICTORIA BAR IN WILLIAMSBURG. DO NOT GO TO CROWN VICTORIA BAR IN WILLIAMSBURG.

A man brutally attacked me, and the only reason I’m not dead or in a coma is because my friend stepped in and fought for me. At the end of the scuffle I grabbed my mace and hit him with it, and the truly lovely men who work at Crown Vic told me that they WOULD NOT get me ice. Would not get my friend ice– That I should be careful with my mace, it “could have hit *them*” And *my favorite* comment “it’s shocking I don’t get punched in the face more often by men since I’m ‘so annoying.’” To be fair, I can be hella annoying (lol), but being the victim of a crime should not be seen as annoying. Should not give license to a manager to GET IN THE FACE of a woman on the sidewalk outside of his bar and say she deserves more of the same.  NO ONE deserves to be abused and the fact that three grown men watched a woman get punched in the face and refused to help her is reason for me to believe that they aren’t looking out for you and they absolutely WILL NOT protect you if you go there. 

You will get roofied.

You will get raped.

You might get beaten.

And THEY. WILL. BLAME. YOU. FOR. IT.

There are plenty of bars to chill with friends in that neighborhood. DO NOT RISK GOING TO CROWN VICTORIA BAR AND BEER GARDENS IN WILLIAMSBURG. It might save your life.

Manager: It’s a [unintelligible], okay?

OP: Mmhmm. What did you say about me getting punched all the time ‘cause I’m annoying? What was that, sir?

Manager: [walking away, speaks over his shoulder] I said I bet it happens.

OP: You can’t, you can’t - You’re not good at blocking it, I can see it.

Manager: [walks back]

OP: What’s your name?

Friend: [in background, addressing someone else] Thank you, thank you.

OP: [talking to person not visible on camera] Great, thank you so much.

[to manager] What’s your name?

Manager: [shakes head]

OP: I’m sending it to the bar, you don’t have a job.

Manager:  I’m the manager here. You can just [unsure - sounds like “tell them that”]

OP: Oh, wow! Well, good.]

[Transcript for the video of the manager and other staff members being rude, sarcastic and saying they have no obligation to help.

Manager: …doing right now.

Friend: You’re disgusting.

Manager:  She’s, she’s deflecting all her anger and frustration on us.

Friend: NO, you all aren’t helping my friend who is bleeding. [moves camera to show injured friend and then swings it back to focus on the terrible staff members]

Staff member: We’re not obligated to do that.

Friend: You’re right, you’re not. You’re not a good person. That’s what you’re saying.

Manager: That’s right.

Friend: “I’m trash people…

Manager: That’s what we’re saying.

Friend: …welcome to our trash bar.” No woman will ever come into this establishment again. You are a trash person.

Manager: You are definitely never coming in.

Friend: I would never want to!

OP: Oh yeah, you’ll be open-

Friend: So you can punch me in the face?!

OP: You’ll be open a few more days. Enjoy it.

Friend: Exactly.

Our new Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada is Jody Wilson-Raybould, an aboriginal woman and leader. This when we’re dealing with a crisis around missing and murdered aboriginal women.

Our new Minister of Defense is Harjit Sajjan, an actual combat veteran and first generation immigrant. This when former the PM’s rhetoric on Canada’s military tradition centered mostly on white British stuff around the War of 1812.

Our new Minister of Veterans Affairs is Kent Hehr, a lawyer who is physically disabled and an experienced activist in the areas of gun violence and LBGTA+ rights. This after a period when Canadian veterans hadn’t just been denied an advocate in Veterans affairs but it had almost become hostile towards them. 

Our new minister of Fisheries and Oceans and the Coast Guard is Hunter Tootoo. An Inuit man has been given the portfolio responsible for issues of natural resources and Canadian sovereignty. 

(Hold on, I need a minute. Hunter Tootoo is hotter than Trudeau. By far. Holy shit. Okay, I’m good now)

And I could go on. We have an actual scientist handling science! A first generation immigrant in charge of democratic institutions! A paralympian in charge of sports and people with disabilities! A doctor as minister of health!
