Recently realized that because i always put on an assault gas mask as soon as i find one, which is usually in Concord, and it covers her entire face and has a big hood attached, none of the companions other than Codsworth have ever actually seen my character's face.
Do you think you could do their reaction to seeing Sole's face for the first time?
Cait: She has to admit, it threw her off. She had traveled with this person for so long, felt as if she knew then front and back, and then their mask was blown off when they were just barely hit with the force of a landmine. They weren’t hideous, at least not to her, but it felt like she was suddenly exposed to such a new concept.
Curie: Curie had been very CURIous about Sole’s face for a while. She had continuously asked why they chose to hide their face. Eventually, she realized it was simply a preference. Which she respected. After a particularly long day of traveling, Sole took off their mask and Curie immediately became encapsulated. She asked if she could touch their face, simply out of wonder. A part of her was dissatisfied they didn’t look the way she envisioned, but another new part sparked into existence that had so many more questions.
Danse: He didn’t try to be the type of guy to be invasive, which is why he never asked about why they always wear a mask. Even if he wanted to. He let it go after a while, until one day they were fighting synths and one blasted Sole’s mask off. After clearing the last one, he retrieved Sole’s mask and got it for them, and was trying to hide his surprise to see their real face. He didn’t want to be invasive, which is why he buried the curiosity, but something about seeing Sole’s face was just… Interesting.
Deacon: He loved mentioning the mask. He wasn’t trying to get Sole to take it off. Was just playful with its existence. He’d often compliment their face saying “Those eyes? Just my type.”, or come up with wacky theories as to why they had the mask, “Lemme guess… Darth Vader style accident. Am I right or am I right?”, but one day they just took it off. Right in front of him. No reason. They just did. And he was shocked. He had all these running jokes, and now it felt like they just vanished into thin air. Though… Now that he’d seen Sole’s face… He could probably think of some more…
Hancock: He doesn’t mention it, he understands all sorts of reasons people would want face coverings. Hell, becoming a ghoul was like his own special permanent face covering (Or… Uncovering now that he thinks about it), and one day they’ve been so busy and Sole is just so hungry they take off the mask to chow down on whatever food they can find. He sees their face and he marks off which internal theories were right and wrong, but honestly a part of him is just glad Sole is fine taking off their mask around him.
Maccready: He was a professional and new better than to push his clients about personal things. Plus, for the most part, he didn’t really care. Personality was all he really thought mattered in a person anyway. So when he and Sole were relaxing and Sole decided to take off their mask, he didn’t really have much of a reaction besides noticing. He did stare at certain things he perhaps wasn’t expecting, like scars or a different eye color than what he had imagined.
Nick: Never once for a second tried to figure out why they wanted a mask on. They just did and that was that. Past that was only his business if they chose to share. When they took it off after a long day of fighting so they could get cleaned up, he was just glad they trusted him to take it off before his eyes.
Piper: Who was she if not a curious person? Of course she wanted to see what they looked like! If not after meeting them, then definitely after their interview. She doubted it was newsworthy, but she still wanted to know. She’d try to take peaks any time she could. When they were adjusting their mask, when they had it on a little wonky, anything that would give her anything. It was knocked off in a fight with raiders, and she looked mid battle. The face she’d been trying to see for ages was finally in her sights. And she could tease Sole about it too. Right after she gets this switchblade out of her side. Maybe paying attention would’ve been a good idea.
Preston: He was always curious what his generals face looked like, but he wasn’t pushy. He didn’t even think of it much either. One day, he ran into the generals personal quarters to warn them about a raider attack on Sanctuary, and had seen them sleeping, mask on the nightstand. Even in such a rushed moment, it felt so… Strange to him. Like he had a VIP pass just this once.
Strong: Strong surprised. He assumed this human just didn’t have face! Though, he sad human had face. Now he could no longer imagine Sole as having nothing above the neck.
X6-88: He had been with Sole in their quarters, since they had wanted company. Something about liking somebody to talk to. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed them take off their mask, and when he turned to look, he was pleasantly surprised. They were the spitting image of father. Or, more accurately, father was the spitting image of them. It made sense, biology and all, but he was just surprised at how similar they really looked.
