Guy only held him tighter, unsure of what to say. He wasn’t an expert in the least when it came to finding yourself; he still had trouble identifying himself at times. All he felt he could do was hold him and offer assuring words, “What are you talking about? You have a ton of good qualities. Just think of how happy you make me just by being yourself.”
It was true; Guy was often taken aback when he heard words like this leave Sync’s mouth. He knew he must have been angry a lot of the time, but the blond almost never noticed it with how often he was bringing him happiness. “I’ve never met anyone who can fight like you – you’re one of the most impressive people I’ve ever met. Just think; you were in command of an entire combat unit despite everything you had gone through.”
Guy grazed Sync’s cheek with his thumb, gently wiping away any wetness from his cheeks. He found it hard to look away from his red eyes; so broken and so lost. He wondered if he would be the one to change the way they looked. “I love you because, despite everything you say, I think you’re a good person. You may still be angry all the time, and you have a right to be, but I think you handle your life better than most people could have.”
Raising his hand, he ruffled his hand through his hair playfully. “Just don’t be so hard on yourself, okay? It almost makes me miss the Sync who I knew could kick my ass if I looked at him the wrong way.”
Sync closed his eyes, leaning in to Guy’s touch. It was difficult to believe Guy’s words, especially with the way he was brought up. He never knew anything other than hating himself.
But he didn’t want that anymore. That wasn’t his life. This was his life. “I…. don’t know what to do but… I’m sick of being angry. I just… want to be normal…” He wrapped his arms around Guy, hugging him tightly. “I’m sorry.”
He took in a deep breath, trying to stop himself from crying. “I really do love you. I can’t… guarantee that I won’t be hard on myself but… I want to change. I think.” His fingers gripped his shirt tightly.
“But don’t think for a second that I can’t kick your ass. I may be out of practice, but I’m confident enough.” He peaked up at Guy through his bangs, smirking slightly. “But that can wait until you rest a bit.”
“You just have to take it a day at a time. It’s not going to be easy but I’ll be here for you every step of the way.” Guy slid his hands down Sync’s arms, resting them on his elbows as he still had a hold on him.
Hearing the cockiness in Sync’s voice only added to his playfulness. He had certainly missed that side of him. “Oh yeah? Maybe we don’t have to wait.” He slid his hands down farther, holding onto his wrists before sharply placing them behind Sync’s back to keep him in place. Leaning in, his grin grew wide as his face came close to his. “I don’t think I need too much rest to handle you.”
