The Seedrian's Return

Tails visits the flower daily - not just to tend to it, but to sit to it, talk to it (or, as he’d put if it asked, to sit with and talk to her). He knows it’s a long shot, but he can’t help but hope that, inside of the massive bud he’s been taking care of for the course of a year, she might be found.

“I miss you, Cosmo.” Here at his latest visit, he places a hand gently on the petals, frowning sadly -

And feels an odd vibration. 

“Huh? Is it … Is it … What’s is this?” he says aloud. His twin tails spin behind him as the kitsune lifts off the ground, zipping and hovering around the rosebud. “That - can’t be a heartbeat … Can it?”

Immediately, Tails speaks more quickly. “Hello? Can you hear me? Is - Is that you, Cosmo?” 

There’s no reply from the massive rosebud, but the pulses continue to surge through the petals, and one could almost smell the floral scent in the area grow stronger. Something was clearly about to happen.

Though Tails attention would surely be grabbed by something jumping out of the water far below and landing on the hill. It largely resembled a massive robotic octopus, dark purple with the unmistakable logo of eggman painted onto it’s bulbous head. It’s many limbs were tipped with a handful of claws all centered around red lenses which probably shot lasers when the claws weren’t in use.

“TARGETS SPOTTED: ELIMINATING SECONDARY TARGET TO FACILITATE RETRIVAL OF PRIMARY.” It’d quite loudly announce.

It had been about a year since Cosmo had sacrificed herself to stop the metarex and save her people, and Tails had first planted the seed Sonic had recovered. It had been steadily growing even through the winter and had been replanted several times. It now sat in the center of the formerly barren hill between Tails’ workshop and the rest of the mystic ruins area.

The now massive rosebud seemed to encourage the growth of other plants around it, a circle of various flowers surrounding it, with the rest of the hill covered with healthy green grass. If Tails put a hand against the flower one could almost feel it...beating? Whatever the vibrations meant, something was clearly happening.

Something was...off about the forest today. It felt strange, unfamiliar. The trees were strangers to her, similar enough to the others she’d lived next to in recent months, but different enough to worry her. Their positions were all wrong too, roots crissing and crossing in unfamiliar patterns beneath the ground.

Cosmo couldn’t help the smile that covered her features as she saw how she now looked.

“I look even more like my mother now! How wonderful!”

“Interesting. Now, I suggest we wait a while, while your body gets used to its new changes. And your powers should begin to emerge soon. Likely related to your plant nature… Or who knows, perhaps you’ve become adept with fire magic.” He joked. He was a phoenix… or he had been at one point. He was still skilled, but he had lost his best powers.
