just saw a birth announcement thing that was like "3 inches went in. 19 inches came out" and i am on the floor in tears i'm laughing so hard what is wrong with heterosexual people
- Love that Nathan looks especially muppety. Love how round his face is. Also the bags under his eyes and the look in his eyes are perfect. The fact his beard is a different colour than his hair is great. Iâm getting a slight Bobâs Burgers feeling from it.
- Jacobâs is in a style I donât think Iâve ever seen from him. Heâs just so derpy. Merobiba vibes. Itâs somehow endearing and off putting like a cartoon from the 2000s. Love that a man known for his clean lines made this. Thatâs how you know itâs intentional. Also the ??? was an inspired choice.
- Karinaâs is the most classic, very chill. Love the longer hair and the little sparkles. Despite her tendency to pop off, her avatar is pretty normal. I love the glint in her glasses. And that mouth shape is wild. Above all else the way Karina draws hoodies looks so comfy.
- Is it gonna be weird if I say I think Juliaâs portrait is super attractive? Is it the symmetry? Idk. Despite the Janus vibe and the extra eye, Iâm into it. I suspect one of her faces looks into the past and the other into the future. But the third eye sees the present but in a horrible truthful way. The colours and shadows slap. Itâs my favourite drawfee avatar since the creepy many-eyed Julia
Well weâre in for quite a year. I do hope Jacob also drew the pointing version. It is also interesting that everyone is in a black shirt like theyâre in mourning. (Also fun that Jacob and Julia used far blacker blacks compared to Nathan and Karina; Nathanâs seems a little grey and I think Karinaâs is a little blue.)
I know that some British people take umbrage at Americans calling the Great British Bake Off relaxing, but it's just because GBBO is such a different kind of stressful from American baking shows.
American baking shows will be called something like "Cupcake Knife Fight", there's horror movie lighting everywhere and dramatic stings every 5 seconds. All of the contestants are shit talking each other and fist fighting over the one single deep fryer provided by production. It will show the judges all whispering to each other at their super villain table overlooking the whole kitchen, and one will be like, "Oh my god. Everyone look at Brenda right now. She's straight tanking it." And it will cut to Brenda, who is running around covered in flour and crying and also bleeding for some reason. Then you get a clip from an interview with one of the contestants, and they're like, "I really need to win this. Without this award money, I'm gonna need to close my restaurant, sell my dad, and live out of my car. AGAIN." Then the giant digital doomsday clock overhead lets out a horrid klaxon, the judges tell half of them that their cupcakes taste disgusting, and one of them gets eliminated and sent to walk down the dramatically-lit shame hallway never to be seen again.
Meanwhile GBBO is in a lovely, brightly colored tent, there are delightful and friendly hosts/jesters there to keep everyone entertained, and all of the B Roll is of like... a bumblebee going into a flower, or a lamb running in a field. And yes, there will be moments where someone will mess up their timing or something, and they'll be looking at their bake through the oven door like, "oh gosh I don't think this will rise in time!" Then they stand up to find Paul Hollywood directly behind them ominously. His creepy whitewalker eyes will glow white, and he'll say something like "the 12th of June. 2035. Drowning." And his eyes will go back to normal and he'll walk away. Then the baker gives a playful grimace to the camera and says "that didnt sound great, did it?". Cut to a sweet looking older woman sipping tea on a stool and she says "oo I do hope that Prue enjoys the taste of my sugary, sticky baps!". Then, at the end, someone gets a gold star for doing good, and the loser of the episode gets in the middle of a giant group hug. You see all of them at the end of the series at a giant carnival with their families and the post credits informs you that all of the contestants have become a Partridge Family-style traveling band and stayed friends forever.
Up next on the Stardew comic - dinners and walks and invites, oh my.

Zoom In, Donât Glaze Over: How to Describe Appearance Without Losing the Plot
Youâve met her before. The girl with âflowing ebony hair,â âemerald eyes,â and âlips like rose petals.â Or him, with âchiseled jawlines,â âstormy gray eyes,â and âshoulders like a Greek statue.â
We donât know them.
Weâve just met their tropes.
Describing physical appearance is one of the trickiest â and most overdone â parts of character writing. Itâs tempting to reach for shorthand: hair color, eye color, maybe a quick body scan. But if we want a reader to see someone â to feel the charge in the air when they enter a room â we need to stop writing mannequins and start writing people.
So letâs get granular. Hereâs how to write physical appearance in a way thatâs textured, meaningful, and deeply character-driven.
1. Hair: Itâs About Story, Texture, and Care
Hair says a lot â not just about genetics, but about choices. Does your character tame it? Let it run wild? Is it dyed, greying, braided, buzzed, or piled on top of her head in a hurry?
Good hair description considers:
Texture (fine, coiled, wiry, limp, soft)
Context (windblown, sweat-damp, scorched by bleach)
Emotion (does she twist it when nervous? Is he ashamed of losing it?)
Flat: âHer long brown hair framed her face.â
Better: âHer ponytail was too tight, the kind that whispered of control issues and caffeine-fueled 4 a.m. library shifts.â
You donât need to romanticise it. You need to make it feel real.
2. Eyes: Less Color, More Connection
We get it: her eyes are violet. Cool. But that doesnât tell us much.
Instead of focusing solely on eye color, think about:
What the eyes do (do they dart, linger, harden?)
What others feel under them (seen, judged, safe?)
The surrounding features (dark circles, crowâs feet, smudged mascara)
Flat: âHis piercing blue eyes locked on hers.â
Better: âHis gaze was the kind that looked through you â like it had already weighed your worth and moved on.â
Youâre not describing a passport photo. Youâre describing what it feels like to be seen by them.
3. Facial Features: Use Contrast and Texture
Faces are not symmetrical ovals with random features. Theyâre full of tension, softness, age, emotion, and life.
Things to look for:
Asymmetry and character (a crooked nose, a scar)
Expression patterns (smiling without the eyes, habitual frowns)
Evidence of lifestyle (laugh lines, sun spots, stress acne)
Flat: âShe had a delicate face.â
Better: âThere was something unfinished about her face â as if her cheekbones hadnât quite agreed on where to settle, and her mouth always seemed on the verge of disagreement.â
Let the face be a map of experience.
4. Bodies: Movement > Measurement
Forget dress sizes and six packs. Think about how bodies occupy space. How do they move? What are they hiding or showing? How do they wear their clothes â or how do the clothes wear them?
Ask:
What do others notice first? (a presence, a posture, a sound?)
How does their body express emotion? (do they go rigid, fold inwards, puff up?)
Flat: âHe was tall and muscular.â
Better: âHe had the kind of height that made ceilings nervous â but he moved like he was trying not to take up too much space.â
Describing someoneâs body isnât about cataloguing. Itâs about showing how they exist in the world.
5. Let Emotion Tint the Lens
Whoâs doing the describing? A lover? An enemy? A tired narrator? The emotional lens will shape whatâs noticed and how itâs described.
In love: The chipped tooth becomes charming.
In rivalry: The smirk becomes smug.
In mourning: The face becomes blurred with memory.
Same person. Different lens. Different description.
6. Specificity is Your Superpower
Generic description = generic character. One well-chosen detail creates intimacy. Let us feel the scratch of their scarf, the clink of her earrings, the smudge of ink on their fingertips.
Examples:
âHe had a habit of adjusting his collar when he lied â always clockwise, always twice.â
âHer nail polish was always chipped, but never accidentally.â
Make the reader feel like theyâre the only one close enough to notice.
Describing appearance isnât just about what your character looks like. Itâs about what their appearance says â about how they move through the world, how others see them, and how they see themselves.
Zoom in on the details that matter. Skip the clichĂŠs. Let each description carry weight, story, and emotion. Because youâre not building paper dolls. Youâre building people.
I know this is going to make me sound pretensions but I have to get it off my chest. I feel an unimaginable rage when someone posts a photo and is like "this picture looks like a renaissance painting lol" when the photo clearly has the lighting, colors and composition of a baroque or romantic painting. There are differences in these styles and those differences are important and labeling every "classical" looking painting as renaissance is annoying and upsetting to me. And anytime I come across one of those posts I have to put down my phone and go take a walk because they make me so mad
In case you're curious here's what I mean.
Renaissance(distinct lines, stability and the individual man):
Baroque (bold, chaotic, dramatic):
Romantic(romanticize the simple hard working life):
Do you see the difference?
this post has re-wired my brain in the best way
sometimes you need dialogue tags and don't want to use the same four
For anyone who needs this

GOODNESS GRACIOUS THIS COMIC TOOK WAY TOO LONG FOR ME TO FINISH- this was meant to be a quick fun comic I made on a whim, but it ended up being quite a few pages long đ it also didnât help that Iâve been quite busy-
But here it is! A little comic delving a bit into the more vulnerable side of Snufkin. Usually Snufkin is fine with solitude, so what would happen if he so happened to not be completely ready yet to leave Moominvalley for the winter?
I hope my hand writing is legible- sorry if itâs bad :,)

âwhat if kids identify with something and it ends up just being a phase-?â good. stop teaching and expecting kids (and adults honestly) to formulate permanent traits and ideas of themselves. everything in life is a phase. that doesnât make it any less legitimate while you experience it. let people explore themselves and know itâs okay if what you think about yourself changes.
