✨ Emotions are usually embodied experiences.

Before we can name or understand a feeling it often shows up in the body as tight shoulders, a racing heart, heaviness in the chest, a hot face, buzzing. Our bodies hold these emotional signals as part of how we experience the world.

When we feel emotionally dysregulated, our nervous system becomes overwhelmed, making it hard to think clearly or feel. From an early age, some of us learn to disconnect from our bodies, feel numb, or become stuck in an effort to try and get a move on in our lives, which can keep emotions trapped and unprocessed.

Using art therapy for embodied expression and visual inquiry helps us reconnect with our body and feelings in a safe way. By moving our hands, noticing sensations, and allowing shapes and lines to emerge, we can process emotions gently, supporting the nervous system to settle. This can help us feel more regulated, present, and give us the space to be able to respond and reflect.
