I've had this mystery story going on for a while in my head. It's set in the 50s and 70s within a small town in rural Western Australia. Basically in 1955 Mary, who was otherwise a popular and friendly girl in the community, is found dead on the night of her school dance. A note is found near her body, and it's ruled pretty quickly as suicide by overdose. All her friends have to learn how to cope after she leaves, her being the glue between quite a few groups.

Eighteen years later in 1973 Jess moves into Mary's old house, unaware of its reputation until she finds Mary's room sealed up, untouched since the night she died. As she starts to dig deeper and deeper, she realises Mary's death may not have been the suicide it was presented as, and that one of her old friends could be responsible. Also the house is probably haunted. Jess is determined not to move houses again and figures the best way not to do that is to bring up everyone's 18 year old trauma and solve the murder, no matter who that pisses off :P
