I do not know why so many people in the fandom have this idea Ilya Rozanov is broke.
For a player of his caliber, who regularly makes play-offs, he's probably making $8-$10 million a year off hockey alone. He has sponsorships, just not as many as Shane.
He owns a VERY nice house in Boston and has a sports car collection in the books. He doesn't make as much as Shane, but he still makes a substantial amount.
It's not as obvious in the show because of budget constraints, but make no mistake, both Shane and Ilya have fuck you money. Their NHL pensions alone will pay out $275,000 annually, between that and other retirement funds and basic investments, neither of these boys are ever going to be broke.
Professional sports require a lot of their players to completely devote their lives to the game from an early age. Their bodies last until their 30's, or their 40's in cases of extreme outliers, then they're in the wind with no qualifications or skills. Nobody would fuck with professional sports if it couldn't provide a very secure future.
My experience working in tech taught me that the number of times you have to flush your DNS is a recession indicator.
i’ll kick anyone’s ass. i’ll kick your ass. i’ll kick your dog’s ass. i’ll kick my own ass
World Heritage Post
Do I think it is objectively healthy that Shane being a bit of a doormat when it comes to Ilya is ultimately what helped Ilya trust him enough to form a long term relationship with him?
Well, no, not really.
But the fact it escalated into a 7 year long unnegotiated dom/sub dynamic, something which I'm not entirely sure either character actively knew they were doing, makes for riveting television.

Anyone else have a childhood so weird you don't talk about it because people would think you were lying?
i spent 4 days on this please take it from me
Jacob with some spot-on Ilya character analysis (and general thoughts on sex-as-self)
It's Open With Ilana Glazer
I love Jacob's commentary. I've said before that I'm an 'Ilya didn't fall in love at first sight' truther.
I think he wanted to seduce Shane as an act of rebellion against his father and to gain a competitive advantage on the ice. Then his dumb teenage ass went to their first hook-up and got his braincells rearranged by Shane meeting needs he didn't know he had.
Happy Pride!
Every pride, you must reblog this. No exceptions
I love that four different people on my feed scheduled this joyous person to reblog by 8am on June 1. I look forward to seeing this a dozen more times today.
I am convinced this is what was happening in this scene
If there are any Millennials reading this, it is very, very important you read the text behind Shane's head in the last gif . Trust me. You're gonna recognize it.

These two giant turtles have been fighting each other for more than 120 years.
According to the zoo, one turtle stole the other’s food 120 years ago, and since that day they became enemies.
There hasn’t been a single day where they don’t fight for 2–3 minutes😂
Can you imagine holding a grudge for 120 years?
My sister came over a few weeks ago and ate my pint of Ben and Jerry's. It was Dirt Cake, a flavor that isn't always on the shelf, because God forbid it steals Tonight Dough's thunder. I understand that turtle so much, I swear to god.
As someone who works in tech, AI isn't the existential threat people think it is. AI is a smokescreen obfuscating the real existential threat, which are Global Capability Centers in India. These are places designed to replace entire US teams at the drop of a hat across multiple industries.
Now, it's of course not the fault of people working at these GCC's. They're the same as any of us, just people trying to survive this miserable world that bug eyed tech bros have created. They're not the enemy. The owners certainly are, but not the employees.
My point is, rich people are cooperating with each other at a global scale to depress the pay and value of work for every western or even remotely well paid population on the globe by using workers in the lowest wage countries in the world like a cudgel.
We should maybe stop letting them do that, because coming out of the tech sector, that behavior has the potential to do damage AI never even thought of doing.
The fact that one of AI's lead researchers left the industry to study poetry tells you everything you need to know about where these tech bros are taking the world.
I wish vaporwave would let go of the hold it has on me. This genre really said, "What if Tron but with palm trees?" And that shit had no business working as well as it did. And I mean, that's just the aesthetic.
Then you put the music on, and suddenly you're in Miami in 1986. Possibly fleeing from dystopian authorities depending on where your maladaptive daydreams take you.
So, so many of my writing choices can be blamed on this music playing in the background when I'm crafting a scenario.
God, I want to go back to Florida so fucking bad this summer.
I am going to say something brave and controversial.
I don't care for the first five minutes of Free Bird.

I need that guy who has been weighing powdered sugar to weigh multi-step toothpaste and whitening kits.
I use two types of toothpaste every time I brush my test. I do my step 1, which is a deep cleansing toothpaste. Step two is a whitening toothpaste.
I use both every time I brush my teeth, and despite the bottles being the same size, I run out of the whitening toothpaste like two, sometimes three weeks before I run out of the cleansing toothpaste, and it pisses me off.
The solve was simple, I just went and bought a spare tube of whitening toothpaste to have on deck for when this happens, but like also, I shouldn't have to.
I can't wait until Gen Z hits their mid-30's and discovers that side parts make them look like extras from AHS Coven.
They're going to be out on these streets like, "Bubble bubble, boil and brew, parting down the middle fucked me up too."
