What's wrong with the mangagamer sprites? 0: just curious! uwu
there are only two sprites currently to base any judgments on but both sprites are kind of consistent in focusing on. sexualization. Rena’s is not terribly different from, say, the Ryukishi or Alchemist PS2 sprites, but Mion’s is a whole different ballpark

it’s self-explanatory, but the sprites are featured with Ryukishi’s original sprite, the Alchemist PS2 sprite, and the brand new Mangagamer sprite, from left to right. like, I’m no artist and no anatomy expert, but that is some pretty damn fucking obvious focus on sexualizing Mion’s boobs to the point where you don’t even notice the rest of her goddamn body in the last sprite. speaking from my perspective, her boobs look as if they are actually situated closer to her collarbone and attempting to approach her neck. god, that can’t be healthy for her. I’m not even going to get into spinal issues. (also her facial anatomy looks off to me? I could be wrong but her eyes don’t look entirely even on the plane of her face, though that could just be because she’s turned at an angle)
if Mangagamer had simply brushed off the issues on the actual artist drawing the sprites, this wouldn’t be a huge, disgusting issue. but the problem is that when someone on their staff blog actively pointed out that the only two sprites we have seen of two of the most popular female characters in the franchise are both already being oversexualized, a Mangagamer staff member literally said that they did not see anything wrong with that.
they don’t see anything wrong with sexualizing Higurashi’s characters and marketing the entire series as an eroge. they don’t see anything wrong with it “because that’s how Ryukishi drew them” (yes, yes, clearly Mion’s boobs in Ryukishi’s sprite are identical to the Mangagamer version, right /sarcasm)
they don’t see anything wrong with talking avidly about the inclusion of a nude sprite for Satoko “because it was in the original.” doesn’t matter that this is an 11/12-year-old child we are talking about, and that she was a victim of severe physical, verbal, and mental abuse, or that she was literally on the goddamn verge of death, no, let’s just try to talk about how necessary it is to see her naked. on a staff blog. because the Mangagamer staff cares. /sarcasm
please, please don’t give any money to Mangagamer if you can help it. if you’re going to buy the games on Steam when the release comes out, please read them with the original Ryukishi sprites. or please just download them here for free, and buy the Japanese games here if you want to support 07th Expansion.
