By restaurant I mean Olesya Ilyukhina believing she will get to teach her friend EVA stuff, getting put under thinking she will see Tau Ceti and be there to support the man who chose to sacrifice his life in less than three hours. By restaurant I mean Yáo thinking he will get to witness the discovery of their solution with his friends by his side. By restaurant I mean Grace waking up with two bodies next to him, terrified, light years away from home, and still deciding to give them proper funerals because he knew, instinctively, that he used to love those people and that they deserved better than rotting away on a spaceship denying them proper burial at home.

A bit wild to me to see the notion that PHM is apolitical, even from the author himself, because... what? You mean the movie in which the world governments work together to try to solve a climate disaster, and scientists are believed, and it's explicitly said that the nations of the world won't work together to ration food? You mean the movie in which a woman is leading the main project to save the world and is scapegoated for it? You mean the movie in which the main character is seen as expendable partly because of the fact that he has no conventional partner or a traditional family? You mean the movie in which the main character loses all of his autonomy for the greater good and is forced to become a sacrifice? You mean the movie where the main character meets an alien and they share each other's scientific discoveries and advancements and culture? You mean that movie?

if you're having trouble sleeping the best you can do is put a bright object close to your face and look at it for at least 30 minutes. if that doesn't work you can close your eyes but make sure to think really hard about a bunch of bullshit
