"Remember”
“...when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priests forever after the order of Melchizedek.” (Hebrews 6:17-20 ESV)
In the midst of a war, people run for cover to not get caught in the crossfire. Relieved for the moment, the trek of making their way out of the battlefield still lies before them. Some lose hope of ever making it out.
There is a raging spiritual war for our souls between the forces of light and darkness, and the almighty has sent us His Spirit to guide us off the battlefield, but we must be willing to take the journey step-by-step, we must have hope. Battered and bruised, tripping and falling along the way, giving up becomes tempting. And then the Spirit turns to us and says, “Remember”. “Remember,” the Lord said, “what I have done for you. Remember my promises.” He instructed the people of Israel to hold certain festivals and to devote themselves to His Word. Why? Because the sounds and sirens blaring around them would easily draw them away. In remembering, we grab a hold of God’s promises, of the hope which goes before us and anchors our soul in the midst of the storm. And grounded in this hope, we find comfort and the courage to take another step. Remember.
