“Oh yea that would be lovely.” He said as he looked at them. “I don’t mind it being very sweet, I have a sweet tooth.” He chuckled softly. “Thank you for all of this.” He replied as he gave a soft smile and a sigh. Even in his dream he was very pleased.

They smile, bouncing on their heels slightly before turning on the same heels, walking towards a clearing where the ground glittered like rock candy under bright lights, with sprigs of candy-wrapper flowers breaking through. They don’t stop as they pass through the clearing, moving towards the edge of a deep licorice wood. 

Everything smelled of anise, and they stop, as a table seems to form out of the ether on a candy rug that appears. On the table things begin to appear, all dazzling and multicolored, like hardcandy melted into shapes, and the clear teapot begins to fill itself. Seats sprout from the sugared earth, made of twisting ropes of hardcandy, and Sweet slips into the smaller chair, smiling and offering the second chair to Akiro.

“Sit!”

Akiro looked over and he saw the light fade in the others eyes as they spoke about the liquid. He went back to looking at him. “What lies beyond this?” He asked curious but he also didn’t want to push anymore boundaries with them as they seemed friendly and easy to get along with. The medium knew they were a demon but didn’t want to say anything to make them upset or mad.

“I’ve never been beyond. So I don’t know.” Sweet says, sighing longingly. They spoke the truth-- they’d never been off their candied island. They shake their head, smiling once more. Their eyes, rich lavender hues, blink, flutter as they do, as if something resets about them.

Akiro watched as a cute and very pretty bunny appeared and hopped over. He gently pet the animal and he gave a soft smile. “Are you a ghost?” He asked as he looked at them. “Cause I can see any kind of ghost or spirit.” He said as he then stopped when they yelled. “What is that?” He asked them as he looked at the liquid.

“A ghost? Oh no. I’m just a dream.” They answer, dodging the truth. Maybe telling a newcomer they were a demon wasn’t the smartest idea. The color seemed to fade from the liquid as they observed it stretching into the horizon. It bubbled and rippled, and they frowned when the other commented on it.

“Oh well I live alone in a nice apartment with a bunny named Peaches. I am an only child and I’m a medium.” He replied as he walked with the other. “Usually when I tell people I’m a medium they kinda turn away or find me a freak.” He replied with a soft sad tone. “Hmm, there really isn’t much about me since some of my life has been kinda bland and a bit rough.”

“Peaches? How darling.” They hum, a pleasant smile on their face. Summoned up is colorful motes of light that swirl before a cotton candy rabbit appears and bounces over to them. “You’re a medium? Perhaps that’s why you can interact with me. Often people don’t even notice I’m here.” They giggle. “Life is bland? Well I can think of ways to make it better.” They say, nearing the edge of the land they walked on, the edge dropping off into colorful liquid. 

Akiro was very surprised to see his world change into what he had mentioned and he felt safe for some reason ans he also felt a sense of happiness. “Oh wow, it’s so pretty.” He said as he smiled softly. “I’d love to walk with you.” He said to them. His eyes sparkled with hopes and more dreams, his wish was finally coming true and he was very excited. He reached out to touch the stars and the baked goods in front of him and a soft child-like laugh came out. He was very excited…

The konpeito stars wriggle when touched, twitching merrily at the sensation of fingers. The sky glimmers, and everything around them shimmers when Akiro interacts with the world. Sweet begins to walk towards where the sky begins to turn pink, humming to themselves. “Tell me about yourself. We only have such little time to share before you wake up.”

Akiro had decided to visit a new little place and it looked very cute both inside and out. He walked in and was greeted by a very cute person. He gave a smile as he looked at them, and he gave a soft pink blush at their question. “Oh I’d love to become an astronomer and maybe someday be able to go to space and see the stars.” He said as he continued to blush. He knew this was going to be a bit weird but he wanted to ever since he was a young boy. “I also would love to own a bakery too and it would have all things space related.” He chuckled softly. “Nice to meet you Sweet, my name is Akiro.”

They smile, giggling at the other’s sweet dreams. The world around them, this dreamscape, begins to alter. Suddenly the candy colored sky is darker blues and purples, swirling together. Konpeito stars glow in the distance, hanging by invisible thread it seems. The ground below them seems like rock candy now, but in shades of grey blue and purple, and to their side appears a counter, covered in sweets, a mile long.

“Akiro,” the name rolls off of their tongue and they cover their mouth to hide the warm, unmistakable smile on their cheeks. “Would you like to take a walk with me?”

Their full, bright eyes blink at the newcomer. Their hair is a dizzying shade of cotton candy (blues and pinks and lavenders and whites) spun into dainty curls that frame their face. They smile, tilting their head, a cascade of curls bouncing around their cheeks.

Love is a four letter word !! Sometimes, when QP thinks back to his youth spent traipsing through Elysian fields and weaving fairycrowns of bedstraw and bellflower, he thinks of how SILLY the whole thing felt to him. Laying in heaps together, singing days away. There was no rigorous training, no handbook given to the throngs of Cupii that seemed to populate in the hundreds by the day.
