whenever i see movies about end of the world scenarios i always wonder what happens to the religious people in those worlds. every time i've watched infinity war, when people start disappear out of thin air my mind always thinks "probably 20% of the earth is going into religious psychosis right now, it's literally the rapture"

Honestly, the way some of you exoticise certain cultures and load them with mysticism, or can’t even tell the difference between a generic Christian and a Catholic (the Virgin is absolutely key to that distinction, by the way), really shows the stereotyped mindset and the prejudices some people are operating with.

Manousos has a Virgin in his car because, in Catholic culture, carrying the Virgin protects you from fucking accidents. And on top of that, it’s the local Virgin, because what’s customary is to carry your Virgin, not just any random one. And he sleeps in a church not to protect himself from demonic beliefs, but because in the Catholic tradition churches are open spaces that offer refuge to those in need—they are public places for anyone who requires shelter.

Manousos doesn’t want to take anything that isn’t his, nor does he want to interact with the Hivemind at all. So since he’s not going to break into an empty house—because it is NOT HIS PROPERTY—and he’s not going to go to a motel—because he DOESN’T WANT TO TALK TO OR ASK ANYONE FOR ANYTHING—he goes where anyone from a Catholic tradition would go to spend the night: a church.
