2025 PROMPT LIST IS HERE!

Statement On the Use of A.I.

This is a fun writing challenge, to encourage creativity. There are no prizes but your own satisfaction, and the love of your readers. :)

No, I am not trying to usurp Comfortember (which I thought for sure was in September??) the already established writing event to follow up Whumptober. This is just an alternative, with a greater range of prompts, and prompt schedules.

So pertinent factoids for 2025:

Who: You can call me Rain, and this is open to anyone.

What: a writing event (but you can make art too if you want!) centered around gen (platonic) relationships and hurt/comfort (leaning into the comfort) scenes. Fanfic and original work welcome.

When: November

Where: anywhere you post writing! But this blog will only reblog writing or links from here on tumblr. An Ao3 collection will be made available.

Prompts: There are three levels of prompts to choose from, to help you set realistic goals for yourself, and hopefully let you participate without the guilt of not making every day!😘 There are Daily, Weekly, and a single Month prompt groups.

The Prompt of the Month consists of two words or phrases, a line of dialogue, and a song to draw inspiration from.

The 4 Weekly Prompts consist of two words or phrases, and a line of dialogue each.

The 30 Daily Prompts consist of a single word or phrase each.

You can use ANY of the prompts for the day/week, from one to all of them! You will notice some variety in the possibility for hurt vs comfort vs fluff in each prompt group/prompt. So you can pick whatever you're feeling, or use all of them in the progression of your work! Or if you want to continue some of those Whumptober fics with recovery and hugs and cuddles...👀

Works: can be any length, from five sentences, to ficlets, to a whole chapter fic/novel mashing all the prompts together! Both fanfic and original writing are welcome. They do not have to be written or posted in order, just make sure to tag which day/weeks prompts you're using.

Content: This is supposed to be centered around gen or platonic relationships (friends, siblings, parent-child, mentor-student, neighbours, soldiers, other familial bonds, a garbage truck driver and the kid who waves at him every day, etc. even people and their pets). Romantic relationships can be in the background, but I'm really looking for friends, family, and countrymen to take centre-stage here. If you are inspired to write something with a romantic pairing, go ahead, just don't tag it as comfy-vember. I would ask the writing be kept PG-13 or lower on the maturity scale. :) Or at least this blog will not reblog or recognize anything with explicit content.

And if you didn't finish everything you wanted to, that's okay! You keep right on writing, and share what you've got when it comes! The Ao3 collection will not be closed until next year's Comfy-vember event begins.

Like I said in an earlier post, married or dating characters are definitely not platonic.

You can write what you want, but that would not qualify for this event.

The basic rule is: If you would tag it Gen on Ao3, then it works for Comfy-vember.

You mention that if we do a work that's romantic, it will not be reblogged. Totally respect this btw, but I was wondering what happens when you tag a "ship" but with the intention of not focusing on the romantic aspect of it (e.g. Sonadow but with a focus on their rivalry/character dynamics)

Would we add further clarification in the tags or just avoid "ship" tags?

Hmm, good question.

If the way you write a relationship or what you're choosing to focus on in that relationship (outside of married/dating characters*) falls in what you would consider gen/platonic categories, even if you personally ship them, then I would recommend simply not using the ship tags. Not only is the easier for moderators to work with, but this will also encourage non-shippers of those characters who may have the ship tag blocked to read your work.

For non-romantic relationships, the Character & Character tags are at your service.

I am aware that the division between romantic and platonic can be subjective, but if you are struggling to decide for yourself what category to put something in, it's probably good to ask a friend, especially one who maybe sees those characters and their relationship differently than you.

I hope this clarifies things! (Rather than make them more confusing, haha 😅)

Hmmm, that's a good question!

Though this is an event focusing on comfort, I know many of us enjoy reading at least some hurt leading into it; the bitter angst makes the comfort all the sweeter!

I'm definitely not going to be policing that sort of thing, though since you asked, I would encourage a good balance—giving yourself (and the characters!) a nice soft payoff for the rough lead up. Obviously what makes a 'good payoff' is subjective, so at the end of the day, as long as your work follows the other main theme for this event (gen/platonic focus), I think you should write what comforts you, and then tag appropriately.

Yes, the Ao3 collection will be up and available to contribute to on November 1st.

This year's collection WILL BE MODERATED, so it might take some time to wade through and approve everything that falls in the Comfy-vember parameters in the initial rush.

Yes, I would consider that under the platonic umbrella.

Obviously y'all can use these prompts however you like, but my request is to keep the comfy-vember tags limited to non-romantic, SFW works. I am trusting y'all to interpret that with discretion and respect for others.

I saw the prompts for comfy-vember and I love them! I just wanted clarification on the weekly prompt for the week 2 because the text version and the image version are not the same? I just wanted to know which one is it ^^
