Yeeehaw! Today Jon and I (but tbh, Jon did 80% of the work) built frames for and stretched my first ever canvases. It was fun to use some big machines and to see ~my work~ look presentable for the first time. More to come! Now I’m 27 and in my own apartment in Seattle, I’m falling in love slowly and safely, which no one tells you to do, but it’s been a revelation. I’ve traveled, been through some hell, about to jump into another void and I’m embracing it. This is the first really good summer I’ve had in a long time -- summer’s always melancholy but this one hasn’t been. It was about this time 8 years ago I made the original, physical Comfort Cassette. I’ve still got it in my car. I still listen to it sometimes. I just wanted to tell you, or I guess mostly me, 19-year-old me who made this account, that I’ve grown, I’m not where I ever thought I’d be, and I’m happy.

Goal was to do 14 miles today. Ended up doing 15, which is my official farthest for a day 😊 Hiked to the Kendall Katwalk and then continued along to the Alaska Lake overlook. I was SO HAPPY even when I boinked really hard the last mile (because I was enjoying talking to a new trail friend so I didn't want to stop to eat). I love walking on the PCT. Someday I'm gonna walk that thing out for a long long way. A good good good day. In my heart of hearts my favorite thing is simply walking through the world all day, day after day. Or looking out a moving window ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ What will the next hike bring?!

In Putre Iván took me hiking and birding along a trail made by the Inca. We turned around at some ancient (by human standards) paintings made by unknown persons on a cliff wall. One of the paintings depicted a line with people and animals walking on either side of it. Perhaps the thin line between life and death? Tbh I do not devote much thought to ruins and archeology; my deep love is for the natural world. But it felt almost sacred to walk on that trail and think about the first feet who made it, and all the history that's walked across it since -- native peoples, conquistadors, modern soldiers, travelers, now us -- this trail was like a highway between the Andes and the port at Arica. That experience stays with me always. I drew this in San Pedro de Atacama as I reflected on all these thoughts. I miss the Norte Grande. I want to be back in the Andes.

Paintings (and details of them) that I made on Sunday. I don't know where these party confetti colors came from but I love them! Thank you, mom, for letting me continue to come over and spread paint smooshing chaos through the kitchen and living room even though I don't live there anymore. Feels like I'm honin' in on *something*. Even if it's just joy at the process, and continued surprise each time I lift up a new page.
