Come Monday Journal
Come Monday is a digital collective journal on Instagram and artistic inquiry as much as it is hopeful anxiety. The blues up to and throughout 2020 have moved us to interrogative fervor. What might come? Even as I write this, America is barefoot on the broken glass of the electoral system’s long shattered window hoping it doesn’t awaken the worst of America’s familiar nature. So, what happens to the soul of us, of a nation after fear, after protest, after rejoicing? Come Monday is reflection of and reflectance upon a still-unfolding 2020 just as the need to pivot toward a new year is quickeningly forced against our backs. 2020 remains formidable and yet searing tragedies have no chill as its alliance with mundane struggle is almost too much to bear, having collapsed some of our strong and snuffed a few of the brilliant. The hurricanes, lynching, killer viruses, wildfires, and voter suppression--- so much continued loss --- leave no end in sight. An annual calendar change is most likely not a sea change nor a ground swell into clear sky. Likely not, January is still Winter. Indeed, the most unfair definition of revolution has again come true; our bleak faces look as they always have. It’s the truth. Issa collective mood! Of course, even in the darkest recesses there remains hope and justifiably so. I hope you have had the opportunities to gather and share warm stories or melt the frigid struggle on collective warmth. To merely live/be/exist together bears hope. Us-ness is reason to hope.
The first conception of this project was a personal series, but there is community building in asking questions together. Again, there is warmth here and hope between us. In that vein, my intention in sending this invitation is to share with each other, amplify our feelings, to riff in unison. I have created a space on Instagram @Come_Monday_Journal meant to be a repository/archive/gathering place for these thoughts, this virtual and collective diary. The plan is to have talks, share work, and to show it online and in-person. Vowing safety and space holding, the platform is open to interdisciplinary and developing work from varied artists of differing disciplines, from futurist thinking to expressions of the now.
Just DM the account @Come_Monday_Journal and we can start sharing as soon as possible. So, don’t hesitate to send thoughts in whatever form. Please format for Instagram. Thanks for giving this any of your thought and time. Peace and love  ~Anthony Francis @AnthonyCFrancis  afrancisart.com
