Evaluation
I was thoroughly pleased with how my Final Major Project came through this year. I was able to produce all of the pieces I wanted for my exhibition, my work came through to a high degree of professionalism when being created and also received very good reviews from the audience in the exhibition. Through the whole time that my Final Major Project has been in play in college, which is all that I have focused on so then my work can come out to the best of my abilities.Β
My work came out just as I wanted to which made me incredibly happy, the fact that they came out perfect without any impurities was great, along with the fact that they did exactly what I wanted them to do in the first place. I wanted my work to stand out from everyone else in the building and to sparkle and shine so much. This is where I got the idea for creating crystal pieces as my work. I wanted to base my work on something different, something that no one else will be doing in my building or has ever done. For which I am very proud of my work to do so very well. During the whole exhibition I was receiving many reviews from many of the people who came to see the exhibition. However I was not happy at all with the amount of people I had to ask to not touch my pieces. None the less I was extremely pleased with how the exhibition and my actual pieces came out.
Through the use of internet research I was able to find the perfect artists that could be used as my artist research which were, Roger Hiorns and Takujin Yoshioka. These artists to a very large amount of art work which is crystal based, Roger Hiorns uses Copper Sulphate to create his crystals, as did I for half of the crystals and circle crystals I had decided to grow. This is one of the most successful chemicals to be used that can grow crystals very easily and grows the crystals in a Trilinic fashion. Takujin Yoshioka grows his crystals in a very much different manner, he submerges his seed crystals in a saturated solution of the same chemical and then he plays a song with the speakers next to it so then the vibrations causes the crystals to grow and form in specific manners. This is what makes his own work so unique and interesting to see in person. However I am unable to find out anywhere on his website or in his book, what the actual chemical it is that he uses to grow his crystal work.Β
What was upsetting however with my work was the fact that I have set out around 42 pieces to be grown over the 2 months so then I would have plenty of work to choose from to put on my exhibition. However I was only able to grow up to 20 pieces while the others had failed to grow for some unknown reason or they had fallen apart when trying to take out of their saturated solution. So then I had unfortunately had to use what all that I had, which had made it through the 2 months of growing and maturing. This was not what I had planned at all and so I was disappointed with having to choose, however I was lucky to find that the ones that had made it through the process were all very good and interesting to see.
Overall I am very pleased with how my pieces had come out and had been put onto the exhibition on display, I might have changed a few things such as the amount of pieces that were on display but that was really out of my control. But other than that I couldnβt have been happier with the way that my Final Major Project had come out. Through the colours and the clarity of the crystals made it a worthwhile spectacle to see on display. The Copper Sulphate was probably the most interesting to be seen at the exhibition for me to see and everyone else, especially the circle crystals which came out probably the most spectacular.
