Colour Radio

One of the many demos for a second Colour Radio album, this track was recorded at Streeterville Studios in Chicago. At this point the band consisted of Stephen Schneider and Patrick Nedobeck.

An early Colour Radio demo recorded when they were still a duo in their home studio on a Teac 3340 4-track reel to reel, and prominently features the Sequential Circuits Pro-1 and Roland 606 drum machine that were a prominent part of their early sound. This track was played on WMSE and as a dance track in nightclubs early in their career.

The world lost part of its rhythmic pulse when Kenny Baldwin passed away this past year. Remembered as the owner of the Starship nightclub which was the center of the alternative music scene, as well a being a member of Colour Radio and other bands, he will be missed by all of those he touched with his music and laughter.

Milwaukee Magazines take on the Milwaukee Music scene in 1984. Even they played up Colour Radio's looks and Duran Duran comparisons. An interesting list of musicians regardless.

This is typical of a lot of what was written about the band in the early days. Something the band came to resent.

The opening track from Colour Radio's debut album on GoldMountain/A&M Records "Adrianna Dreams". The album was produced by Rick Derringer and was recorded and mixed at the Record Plant in Los Angeles.

Here's the second track from Colour Radio's album on GoldMountain/A&M Records. The song opens with  a door slamming followed by industrial sounds and builds to a power chord anthem of life trapped as a factory worker.

The third track on Colour Radio's debut album, "Dancer", features swirling keyboards and Rick Derringer's excellent guitar work. As always the rhythm section shines, here with some nice fretless bass work.

Ah, the glorious days of vinyl. Colour Radio '45 of the lead track "Sheila". (See audio below). Gold Mountain records was a subsidiary of A&M Records run by Danny Goldberg. It was one of the label's first releases. Goldberg later managed the group Nirvana during their rise to fame and through Kurt Cobain's suicide.

This song was the lead track and single from Colour Radio's debut album although both WBCN in Boston and KROQ in Los Angeles played the album opener "Adrianna Dreams" instead.

This song closes side one of the the Colour Radio album. Wild psychedelic guitar from Rick Derringer and weird backward masking at the end make this one of the more interesting tracks of their debut album.

One of the rarer pieces of memorabilia from the band Colour Radio was this molded multi-colored plastic pin featuring the band's logo.  

This is the track that opened the second side of Colour Radio's 1984 self titled album on GoldMountain/A&M. Producer Rick Derringer's classical guitar work in the instrumental section is one of the high lights.
