PLAYER RULES 1. ALL PLAYERS MUST BE 15 YEARS OR OLDER. Collision is expected to handle some more serious content, and as such players will be expected to know their boundaries and communicate with mods if they feel uncomfortable. There will be a ban on NSFW content in and out of game.

2. PLAYERS WILL NEED TO HAVE A DISCORD ACCOUNT Collision will be taking place in a server hosted through Discord, so players will need to have an account set up there. It can be a new account or an old account, and if you need any help with this please let us know through an ask or DM! Links will be sent out through tumblr DMs, so you do not need to tell us your username or ID before the rp begins.

3. ONCE IN THE SERVER, PLEASE RESPECT THE RULES, AS WELL AS MODS AND YOUR FELLOW PLAYERS Outside of the general rules for applications, we will have a list of server rules as well, mostly to do with in- and out-of-character interactions, triggers, etc. As the mods are working together to run the story, we ask that you respect their role, though of course you are allowed to question a decision or bring issues to their attention. One thing we want to stress: all mods are here to help you. If you have a question about a rule, concern about the game, or are uncomfortable with anything, including another player or mod, please let us know.

CHARACTER RULES 1. Characters must be from EITHER Aberynth or Aevumal. At the start of the story, characters will not know about the other side. There will be plot reasons for characters to go to the other side throughout the story, but at the beginning the two have no knowledge or connection to each other.

2. Characters should be between the ages of 16-23.

3. Please refer to the separate Aevumal and Aberynth character posts to find rules regarding character creation for both sides.

4. If you have any questions, feel free to send an ask or a DM!

GENERAL CHARACTER GUIDE Regardless of where your character starts, your application will need to include:

1. Name and pronouns

2. Character age

3. Personality: this can just be a few quick words about how your character acts

4. Backstory: this can be a few notes or comments, or it can be a full page of narrative. it's up to you. if there are elements of your character's backstory that you would like to keep private but would like to be included in the rp, please reach out via dms!

THIS IS THE POST FOR AEVUMAL (magic) CHARACTERS. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO APPLY AS AN ABERYNTH (tech/sci-fi) CHARACTER, PLEASE VISIT HERE.

As an Aevumal character, you will have access to magical energies and training, magical creatures, and other such abilities. These abilities mainly stem from dichotomies, which everyone in Aevumal has the capacity to connect to. These connections work best when their users work in pairs, balancing out each other's energies. These bonds are usually made through the elemental schools, where those that wish to train in a particular element may go to study and become stronger. Your character may have gone to one of these schools, and may be a part of a dichotomy pair.

CHARACTER RULES 1. Your character has no knowledge of Aberynth or the machines they use there.

2. Your character can be of any race commonly found in a fantasy setting (humans, elves, dwarves, orcs, etc. basically anything from d&d).

3. If you have an idea for a character that does not exactly fit a category listed above (i.e. an anthropomorphic animal, or a homebrew race) please send us an ask or DM! We can more than likely work something out, but we need to make sure everything works with the setting.

4. Your character should be between the ages of 16-23.

5. Your character can have a connection to one of Aevumal's magical dichotomies. If your character's race is already connected to one of these, they cannot individually be connected to another (i.e an ifrit could be more deeply connected to Fire/Ice, but could not be connected to Earth/Wind).

6. Your character may have a familiar and a pet, which can be any magical or mundane creature smaller than a large horse. You cannot have a dragon the size of a mountain.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES 1. Include basic information described in the general application post (name, pronouns, age, personality, backstory).

2. Include your character's race

3. Include physical description. Give us an idea of what your character looks like! Art is encouraged, but not required.

4. Include if your character has attended/is attending one of the elemental schools

5. If you and another player would like to be a dichotomy pair, include the name of the character and player. In your post, it should appear as "Dichotomy: Character Name (Player Name)."     a. to be in a pair, characters must be in the same dichotomy set (Fire/Ice, Earth/Wind, Water/Lightning, Light/Dark).     b. also indicate if you would like your character to be in a dichotomy, but do not have a partner. we will do our best to match characters up, but we cannot promise anything.

6. Indicate if your character has followed the Psychic path of their element. This does not affect dichotomy status.

THIS IS THE POST FOR ABERYNTH (tech/sci-fi) CHARACTERS. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO APPLY AS AN AEVUMAL (magic) CHARACTER, PLEASE VISIT HERE.

As an Aberynth character, you will have access to a wide variety of machinery and technology, taking the form of transportation systems, automated workers, and gearwork creatures. These machines are all powered by interconnected systems, which power the workings of the city. Your character can have worked on these systems directly, or they could have worked a more typical job in the city proper, interacting with or creating machines that utilize the systems' powers.

CHARACTER RULES 1. Your character had no knowledge of Aevumal or the magic they use there.

2. Your character should be humanoid (specifically bipedal).

3. Your character should be between the ages of 16-23. If you have a specific idea that falls outside of this range, please contact us!

4. Your character may have any number of mechanical physical augments (i.e. a metal arm that is a flamethrower). If you would like your character to have genetic/biological augments, please contact us through DMs to discuss. 

5. Your character may have extra machine/technology that is not directly connected to their person. If you are unsure about if something would be allowed, please send an ask or DM!

6. All personal tech should be linked to one of the main power systems. This includes gearwork creatures, pf which a character can have a maximum of two. APPLICATION GUIDELINES 1. Include basic information described in the general application post (name, pronouns, age, personality, backstory).

2.  Include physical description. Give us an idea of what your character looks like! Art is encouraged, but not required.

3. Describe the tech your character has, whether an augment or separate from their person.

4. Describe the kind of tech your character works on, if any. This can be in the form of one of the main systems directly, smaller pieces they use in day-to-day jobs (i.e. coffemaker, windstep boots, frostgloves, toasters), or personal projects your character may have.

Windmills. Monorails. Automatons. Each machine in the world is powered by a certain energy. This energy seals itself into steel and copper and oil, granting inert material a sentient efficiency and control. Energies can be classified into several distinct systems, each performing a different function, acting as different threads in the fabric of reality. The elements. The world spins around these elemental balances. The scientists of Aberynth inject these into their world with powerful machinery and precision, developing true mastery over powers not yet quite understood. But with knowledge comes power, as the saying goes, and with each innovation*, Aberynth's power grows.

Lower levels in each system generally work with the machines the utilize the energy, while those working higher up work with the machines that actually pull the energy from its source.

THE FOUNDATIONS

Fire & Ice

The systems of Fire and Ice primarily control larger climate elements, as well as feeding into several of the manufacturing processes in Aberynth, such as the forging of new machinery and building new elements into the larger systems. Smaller applications of Fire and Ice technology include machines such as flamethrowers, frostgloves, propulsion systems, food storage, and toaster. Workers trained in the higher systems of Fire and Ice tend to be sturdy and rather stubborn, working in the burning forges or freezing development labs all day.

Earth & Wind

The systems of Earth and Wind control infrastructure and transportation technology throughout Aberynth, including rail systems, straightlanes, and tower developments, as well as supplementing the gardens and natural systems through the city. Smaller applications of Earth and Wind technology include stepping boots, terraforming circlets, and leafwalk pads. Workers trained in the higher systems of Earth and Wind tend to be rather lean and confident, fast and playful, jumping between turbines and branching pathways through the city.

Water & Lightning

The systems of Water and Lightning control the finer aspects of weather, as well as the powering of smaller day-to-day functions in Aberynth. Water machines guide storms to water crops and gardens and power the giant wheels on the outskirts of the city, and Lightning machines funnel some of that energy for use in more simplistic technology, such as elevators, general outlets, and friction-induced transporters. Workers trained in the higher systems of Water and Lightning tend to be great improvisers, thinking on their feet and always moving swiftly with the current.

Light & Dark

The systems of Light and Dark control some of the most high-powered technology available in Aberynth. They deal with photon beams, negative particle transport, and clearsight mirrors. Smaller applications of Light and Dark technology work closely with Lightning systems to light and power the more detailed areas of the city. Workers trained in the higher systems of Light and Dark tend to show great dedication and focus to their chosen study. They currently lead the research teams tasked with finding a way to replenish the Source, so that Aberynth may continue to run.

*Innovations such as the volatile hybridization of elements, which when attempted has often resulted in maiming and property damage. When correctly handled, however, strong and versatile machines emerge. It seems the old adage 'two heads are better than one' applies.

An element affects the world around it, connecting and shifting the world to its core. Everything works in balance, on two sides of a scale, and as such each element has its opposite, its controlling factor. They keep each other in check. One cannot exist without the other. A dichotomy. The world spins around these elemental balances. Their practitioners connect to their elements, wielding their powers as extensions of themselves. A single practitioner can be quite powerful, a master of their element- but they are always stronger when they work in balance.

The Extremes

School: Fax Gelum

The blazing rage of flames may only be tempered by the freezing control of ice. The contrast is what powers this connection, the ability to hide one's passion behind a mask of indifference, to be unleashed later. It is potential versus kinetic. Calculation versus impulse.     

Physical Aspects: Practiced users of Fire may develop scales around their wrists and feet, as well as horns on the head or spines down the back. Practiced users of Ice may develop patches of light fur around their wrists, feet, and shoulders, as well as horns on the head. The scale and fur patches will both aid in temperature resistance. Both will develop winding, trail-like markings through their entire bodies. These may glow in oranges, reds, and blues when a practitioner activates their powers.

Psychic Aspect: Ice and Fire practitioners that follow the psychic path learn to read instinct on a primal level. They find their answers in the patterns of flames and fractals, and in the most base reactions of their companions.     

The Listeners

School: Tellus Campa     

The steady, constant being of the earth provides the base of the wind's free movement, whirling over plains and through mountain canyons. The constant interaction between the earth and the air allows for steady dependability in the midst of spontaneity.

Physical Aspects: Practiced users of Earth may develop scale-like patches of gems or stone on their skin, as well as flowers and vines woven into their hair. Earth practitioners may also experience an increase in sturdiness. Practiced users of Wind may develop small patches of feathers around the eyes or the shoulders. Wind practitioners may also experience an increase in flexibility. Both will develop winding, trail-like markings through their entire bodies. These may glow in greens, browns, and greys when a practitioner activates their powers.

Psychic Aspect: Earth and Wind practitioners that follow the psychic path learn to listen to the world around them, to read the rumbles of the ground and the shifting patterns on the air. They use deep meditation to connect to their surroundings and everything in it.

The Reactionaries

School: Fulmen Ros

The crackle of of frenetic power is amplified by the unpredictability of the currents. The constant sending and receiving of energy creates a whirling stream of power that begs to be released. The current sizzles in its intensity, creating howling, rejuvenating storms and devastating stillness in equal measure. It can be consuming.

Physical Aspects: Practiced users of Lightning may develop thin, branching spines on their shoulders and down their backs, and will experience a marked increase in physical speed. Practiced users of Water may develop small fins around the ears, as well as a little webbing through the fingers and toes. Water practitioners may also experience an increase in movement ease. Both will develop winding, trail-like markings through their entire bodies. These may glow in blues and yellows when a practitioner activates their powers.

Psychic Aspect: Water and Lightning practitioners that follow the psychic path tend to follow different roles. Water practitioners center more in the facet of cool unpredictability, using meditation and controlled movement to connect more deeply to their element and everything it touches and imprinting those memories into their minds. Lightning practitioners revel in frenetic movement, catching flashes of events worlds away, sometimes without noticing.

The Clairvoyants

School: Luxam Simulacrum

The absence of one leads to the other. The pair that most directly opposes each other, the powers of Light and Dark are energies that their practitioners absorb and cast out in equal measure, in drawing shadows forward and casting them back, in drawing the color and life into being. Their natures themselves are not so different, both calming and dangerous as needed.

Physical Aspects: Practiced users of Light may develop small dots around their eyes and hands that will glow faintly in the presence of natural light. Light practitioners may also experience a wider range of color and visibility. Practiced users of Dark may develop fuzz around the ears or a small node in the heel of their feet, which will increase their ability to sense surroundings in the absence of light. Dark practitioners may also experience an increase in perception.  Both will develop winding, trail-like markings through their entire bodies. These may glow in tinted whites or dark purples when a practitioner activates their powers.

Psychic Aspect: Light and Dark practitioners that follow the psychic path learn to affect the presentation of the world around them. With their control over the visible aspects of their surroundings, they alter perception through illusions and confusion.

A hum of constant, controlled energy runs through the lines and pipes of this place. It twists through the seismic reactors and sizzles in the giant lightning conductors that run wires through the city, powering all manner of work and pleasure. It runs in the giant reservoirs stocked with kite-surfers, harnessing the wild power of the water and the wind in dazzling displays of skill. It is a triumph, it is the ultimate control, it is the most integral part of society. Lately, the machines have been failing faster. Systems still operate properly, the converters still work, but parts are wearing through faster and faster, and production rates are falling. Those that have worked on their engines for decades say that the machines are failing containment: the seismic reactors grow vines through their gears, the ignitive converters throw streams of flames from their ports. The thing about bound power is that it becomes confined to its conductor. It is not allowed to build. The Source is running out.

                                                                                                                              Aberynth exists without a natural means of accessing the powers that run through the core of the world. The machines tap into this power instead, allowing Aberynth’s citizens to harness the energy and bend it to their uses. The machines that control larger functions, heating and lighting and providing water, are worked in large systems, tended to and controlled by trained engineers.

A current of wild energy runs through every facet of this place. It sings through the leaves of the trees in the forest and rushes in the running river, the crack of thunder, the shifting of day to night. It swirls through every being that inhabits this place, changing them, ingraining itself into their essence. It is a celebration, it is lifeblood, it has been the people's friend for generations. Lately, it has been harder to call. It comes when asked, and it rarely goes awry, but it feels like the energy is being pulled elsewhere. Those with deeper connections to the mind, those that call the steady perseverance of the water and the quiet, immoveable strength of the earth report a metallic gleam of unnatural stiffness, resting in the undercurrents. The thing about currents is that the rely on what is above as well as what is below. Things are stirring in the forest.

                                                                                                                                Aevumal exists in a space absent of what might reasonably be referred to as “technology,” beyond simpler mechanics such as ships and forges. Everything is done with the strength of the body and community, and if it cannot be accomplished through those means it can almost certainly be accomplished with magic, taught through a system of elemental schools designed to bring students to the full access of their powers, whether connected to or separate from their peers.
