itâs never too late to start again. 5pm on a thursday can be your new monday. you donât have to wait until the new year to better yourself. time is an illusion, donât forget that. just because you woke up at 1pm, it doesnât mean you messed your whole day up and that you canât turn the mood around. itâs never too late to start again!!!!!
Me, every day: Me? Romantic? Please, Iâm not 12.
Me watching Pride and Prejudice (2005) mouthing along: If your feelings are still what they were last April, tell me so at once. My affections and wishes have not changed, but one word from you will silence me forever. If, however, your feelings had changed, I will have to tell you, you have bewitched me body and soul and I loveâŚI love⌠I love you. I never wish to be parted from you from this day on.
whenever i come home for break my mom makes sure to leave her book recommendations on my bed :,)
this is precious :â)
24 Invaluable Skills To Learn For Free Online This Year
Hereâs an easy resolution: This stuff is all free as long as you have access to a computer, and the skills you learn will be invaluable in your career, and/or life in general.Â
1. Become awesome at Excel.
Chandoo is one of many gracious Excel experts who wants to share their knowledge with the world. Excel excellence is one of those skills that will improve your chances of getting a good job instantly, and it will continue to prove invaluable over the course of your career. What are you waiting for?
2. Learn how to code.
littleanimalgifs.tumblr.com
Perhaps no other skill you can learn for free online has as much potential to lead to a lucrative career. Want to build a site for your startup? Want to build the next big app? Want to get hired at a place like BuzzFeed? You should learn to code. There are a lot of places that offer free or cheap online coding tutorials, but I recommend Code Academy for their breadth and innovative program. If you want to try a more traditional route, Harvard offers its excellent Introduction to Computer Science course online for free.
3. Make a dynamic website.
You could use a pre-existing template or blogging service, or you could learn Ruby on Rails and probably change your life forever. Hereâs an extremely helpful long list of free Ruby learning tools that includes everything from Rails for Zombies to Learn Ruby The Hard Way. Go! Ruby! Some basic programming experience, like one of the courses above, might be helpful (but not necessarily required if youâre patient with yourself).
4. Learn to make a mobile game.
If youâre not interested in coding anything other than fun game apps, you could trythis course from the University of Reading. It promises to teach you how to build a game in Java, even if you donât have programming experience! If you want to make a truly great game, you might want to read/listen up on Game Theory first.
5. Start reading faster.
Spreeder is a free online program that will improve your reading skill and comprehension no matter how old you are. With enough practice, you could learn to double, triple, or even quadruple the speed at which you read passages currently, which is basically like adding years to your life.
6. Learn a language!
With Duolingo, you can learn Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian, or English (from any of the above or more). Thereâs a mobile app and a website, and the extensive courses are completely free.
Full disclosure: BuzzFeed and other websites are in a partnership with DuoLingo, but they did not pay or ask for this placement.
7. Pickle your own vegetables.
Tired of your farmerâs market haul going bad before you use it all? Or do you just love tangy pickled veggies? You too can pickle like a pro thanks to SkillShare and Travis Grillo.
8. Improve your public speaking skills.
You can take the University of Washingtonâs Intro to Public Speaking for free online. Once you learn a few tricks of the trade, youâll be able to go into situations like being asked to present at a company meeting or giving a presentation in class without nearly as much fear and loathing.
9. Get a basic handle of statistics.
UC Berkeley put a stats intro class on iTunes. Once you know how to understand the numbers yourself, youâll never read a biased ânewsâ article the same way again â 100% of authors of this post agree!
10. Understand basic psychology.
Knowing the basics of psych will bring context to your understanding of yourself, the dynamics of your family and friendships, whatâs really going on with your coworkers, and the woes and wonders of society in general. Yale University has its Intro to Psychology lectures online for free.
11. Make your own music.
Step one: Learn how to play guitar: Justin Guitar is a fine and free place to start learning chords and the basic skills youâll need to be able to play guitar â from there, itâs up to you, but once you know the basics, just looking up tabs for your favorite songs and learning them on your own is how many young guitar players get their start (plus itâs an excellent party trick).
Step two: A delightful free voice lesson from Berklee College Of Music.
Step three: Have you always thought you had an inner TSwift? Berklee College of Music offers an Introduction to Songwriting course completely for free online. The course is six weeks long, and by the end of the lesson youâll have at least one completed song.
Step four: Lifehackerâs basics of music production will help you put it all together once you have the skills down! Youâll be recording your own music, ready to share with your valentine or the entire world, in no time!
12. Learn to negotiate.
Let Stanfordâs Stan Christensen explain how to negotiate in business and your personal life, managing relationships for your personal gain and not letting yourself be steamrolled. There are a lot of football metaphors and itâs great.
13. Stop hating math.
If you struggled with math throughout school and now have trouble applying it in real-world situations when it crops up, try Saylor.orgâs Real World Math course. It will reteach you basic math skills as they apply IRL. Very helpful!
14. Start drawing!
All kids draw â so why do we become so afraid of it as adults? Everyone should feel comfortable with a sketchbook and pencil, and sketching is a wonderful way to express your creativity. DrawSpace is a great place to start. (I also highly recommend the book Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain if you can drop a few dollars for a used copy.)
15. Make your own animated GIF.
BuzzFeedâs own Katie Notopoulos has a great, simple guide to making an animated GIF without Photoshop. This is all you need to be the king or queen of Tumblr or your favorite email chains.
16. Appreciate jazz.
reddit.com
Have you never really âgottenâ jazz? If you want to be able to participate in conversations at fancy parties and/or just add some context to your appreciation of all music, try this free online course from UT Austin.
17. Write well.
Macalester Collegeâs lecture series is excellent. If youâre more interested in journalism, try Wikiversityâs course selection.
18. Get better at using Photoshop.
Another invaluable skill that will get you places in your career, learning Photoshop can be as fun as watching the hilarious videos on You Suck At Photoshop or as serious as this extensive Udemy training course (focused on photo retouching).
19. Take decent pictures.
Lifehackerâs basics of photography might be a good place to start. Learn how your camera works, the basic of composition, and editing images in post-production. If you finish that and youâre not sure what to do next, hereâs a short course on displaying and sharing your digital photographs.
20. Learn to knit.
Instructables has a great course by a woman who is herself an online-taught knitter. Youâll be making baby hats and cute scarves before this winterâs over!
21. Get started with investing in stocks.
If you are lucky enough to have a regular income, you should start learning about savings and investment now. Investopedia has a ton of online resources, including this free stocks basics course. Invest away!
22. Clean your house in a short amount of time.
Unf$#k Your Habitat has a great emergency cleaning guide for when your mother-in-law springs a surprise visit on you. While youâre over there, the entire blog is good for getting organized and clean in the long term, not just in âemergencies.â Youâll be happier for it.
23. Start practicing yoga.
Most cities have free community classes (try just searching Google or inquiring at your local yoga studio), or if youâre more comfortable trying yoga at home, YogaGlohas a great 15-day trial and Yome is a compendium of 100% free yoga videos. If youâre already familiar with basic yoga positions but you need an easy way to practice at home, I recommend YogaTailorâs free trial as well.
24. Tie your shoelaces more efficiently.
Itâs simple and just imagine the minutes of your life youâll save!
This is a brilliant source of info :)

realising more and more that the only limits in life are the ones you set yourself. Iâm not too old to start things, not too shy to talk to people to try new things, Iâm capable of literally anything and Iâm not going to be the reason I donât do all the things I want to do
Iâm trying to expand this project and add all kinds of new features. If you want to help, you can pledge 1$ to my patreon here, and in exchange, youâll get access to a second project where I try to create the coziest/warmest art collection on the internet.
hereâs your reminder to breathe, check your posture and release any tension you may find

how to study when you REALLY donât want to
weâve all been there. You have a paper due in the morning, itâs 10 pm, and youâre sitting at your desk, feeling dead. Or maybe itâs 3 pm, and youâre just SO overwhelmed with an endless to do list and so many pages to read or annotate or take notes on that you just think,
screw it. I just wonât do anything.Â
Listen, I get it. I understand. I LOVE learning, but I often find myself bogged down by homework, that incessant, painful reminder that youâre being forced to learn. Nobody likes that.
So below are some of my tips for studying, especially when you really, really donât feel like doing it.
Whatâs your absolute dream school? Columbia? Thatâs amazing. Harvard? Incredible. Florida State? Awesome. Wherever you want to be in two years- whether it be college, grad school, teaching, etc. Picture yourself learning in your dream learning environment, doing what you love the most. Maybe for you, that daydream means picturing yourself in a New York City coffee shop, working on Literature homework from Barnard College. Or maybe it means cramming biology in a crowded, raucous library at UMass. Whatever makes you get excited about learning- take the fuel you feel from those daydreams and use it to fan the flames of your love for learning.Â
Treat every single class like itâs your absolute favorite class ever. Listen. I donât care if you have the shittiest teacher on planet earth. I donât care if you couldnât give less of a fuck about quantum physics or functions or whatever. You have the privilege and the opportunity to learn anything and everything, and we could all do good to stop taking that for granted. Treat AP Calculus like itâs your favorite subject EVER, even when- especially when it feels like pulling teeth. But how? You might be asking. The secret is that itâs really, really not that hard. There are so many ways to motivate yourself to do that subject youâve been putting off for days, and you know it!! Use studyblr to find inspiration for That Subjectâ˘, make a study group, trap yourself in your dorm/library/coffee shop until you just finish one problem set, just START. Chances are when you see other people being productive and getting shit done in that subject (cough studyblr cough) youâll want to do it too.Â
Eat, sleep, and live. Listen to me: you HAVE to stop killing yourself to do more school. Your to-do list ISNâT GOING TO JUST GO AWAY. Thereâs always going to be things you have to do and things you could be stressed about. But stress, school, and homework are not excuses to abandon self-care, friendships and having a social life. Go out with your friends! Go to the movies! Go to that football game! Get the important stuff done and stop worrying about your endless list! Having somewhere to go will motivate you to get done faster, and youâre going to feel a lot better after going out and having fun than sitting at home alone procrastinating. Chances are, youâll be more energized to get some work done too.Â
Pay attention to what your bodyâs telling you. Switch out midnight iced lattes for smoothies and fruit. Eat lots of food that makes you feel good, healthy and fulfilled. Stop snacking on the same 4 chips every time you study and start learning how to fuel your body and your brain. If you know you canât eat a full breakfast before school, find things you can eat, and I mean MORE THAN JUST COFFEE STRAIGHT FROM THE POT. Track what you eat for an entire week, and I mean EVERYTHING. Track your water intake, coffee intake, and soda intake. On top of food tracking, also track your mood, productivity, and overall feeling of wellbeing. At the end of the week, see whatâs up! Look for patterns, dehydration, food inconsistencies, gross stuff you eat a lot, things you want to change, all of it. And then actually MAKE THE CHANGES.
I know Iâm going to sound like your mom friend here, but thatâs kind of what I am, so: drinkđđťmoređđťwaterđđť!!!!!!! I cannot STRESS THIS ENOUGH!!!!!!! FUEL YOUR BODY!!! YOU WILL FEEL BETTER!!!
in conclusionâŚ
- picture yourself learning in your dream learning environment
- picture the payoff, you doing what you want to do - nursing or teaching or building fancy ass AI robotos or whatever it is
- do NOT take your education for granted!!!! learning is such an opportunity and not everyone gets it
- treat yourself like a normal human being. take care of yourself. shower. eat.
- pay attention to your body. pay attention to what you need. pay attention to what you WANT
- drink your water, listen to some jazz, and just start somewhere.
- small progress is still progressÂ
no offence but let yourself be ugly!! you donât have to fix your hair if youâre not going anywhere you donât have to cover up ur spots or change out of your lounge pants to go buy milk like damn we really gotta let ourselves be comfortable without constantly apologising for just looking normal and itâs hard but i think we need to practice looking in the mirror and saying i look ugly af today and thatâs okay!! tru self care is letting urself be ugly tbh
I love this version of self-love because itâs much more feasible for people who are self-conscious. Like it takes years of powerful reconditioning to convince yourself that your flaws, like stretch marks or acne or cellulitis, are attractive. Itâs basically impossible for most people.
But learning to say âso what, Iâm ugly, thereâs more to lifeâ not only overwrites this narrative that we have to feel attractive in some way (which is bs) but also reroutes your actual attention to just, living, instead of examining, evaluating, and judging your appearance
