HOT PUMPKIN PIE IN A MUG
πCozy Autumn Blogπ»
some things we should start romanticising
bike rides, especially when listening to music. the wind in your hair, the songs in your ears, every sound being quiet and living in your own bubble of lyrics. (edit: in some countries this is illegal and it can be dangerous - i had not thought of that and i apologise)
sitting in a bus. youβre going back home, maybe youβre reading a book or just looking outside of the foggy glass.
making tea. warming up the water, bringing it to a simmer and closing the gas, pouring it into a ceramic mug, the perfume of tea leaves: itβs a ritual.
buying a new book. walking in a book store, reading the first page of a book that sounds interesting, choosing a book because of its cover, never having heard of that book.
reading the last page of a book. that one doctor who episode where the doctor says he rips the last page of each book he reads, reading the last line and feeling like all the air in your lungs is gone.
that one specific moment when you are coming back from a party and youβre walking the few last steps before getting home.Β
writing your name on a new notebook. scribbling messy letters or trying hard to make it look pretty.
tying shoe laces. where are you even going?
picking a flower. getting off the road and into a patch of grass just to pick a yellow wild flower, pressing it in a book, or putting it in a glass of water.
finally getting to bed. the cold bedsheets, closing your burning eyes, the small sounds of the city.

Studying Effectively at Home // Tip one
Just because your workplace is at home now, does not mean you have to work all the time because youβre always at home! Sounds obvious, but Iβve been high-key struggling with this. I feel like Iβm obligated to study all the time.
How can we overcome this? By setting boundaries and using positive triggers.
Time: time block when youβre going to stop studying and stick by them.
Space:Β If you can, set up a separate place for study and avoid studying in the bedroom. If you live in a small apartment and canβt do the above, try to make some positive triggers for study vs relaxed time. For example, when itβs βhomeβ time, I slip into comfy clothes, put on my fluffy slippers, put my hair down, and turn my lamp on.
Digital: using app blockers, Forest chrome extension, etc. Using separate desktops for work vs play. I have been trying to use my laptop primarily for work and my phone for Youtube/social media.Β
This is a process rather than a quick-fix, but building these boundaries will help so much in the long run! Positive triggers indicate to your body and brain what is currently happening, thereby putting you in an appropriate mindset. For more on positive triggers, I recommend reading Atomic Habits by James Clear.Β
Happy studying! :)Β

Got another long, exhausting day ahead of me. But dammit if Iβm not going to end up being proud of myself by the end of it!
