I was bored as heck so I decided to create an AU for Animal Crossing. It’s bascially all about Redd… but who cares!
The name is a pun… I think…. In my opinion the name Naturalism AU is boring so I changed it to NaturaLIS cuz Lis = Fox in Polish and this AU is about Redd. If someone doesn’t know AU = Alternate Universe.
First 🌱
Let’s get to know our main character - Redd
He’s more of a Calm Redd than Crazy Redd. He’s something of a 11th villager.
New Horizons 🌱
He lives on the other side of the river - the one we cannot explore without a bridge or vaulting pole. He’s still a special character that’s why his house has two rooms instead of one. In front of his house there’s a little fenced area and a painting that changes everyday to a different one. We can visit Redd if we befriend him, otherwise we’ll get a message saying
“I’m painting, please don’t interrupt!” - Busy Fox
When we finally befriend him, he just like other villagers can give us DIYs or his paintings. He’ll never give us any clothes or trash.
We can move him out, but it’s harder than moving regular villagers as other Special Characters like Tom Nook, Blathers or Flick want Redd to stay on the island. Similiar to how we move in Amiibo characters, we need to try moving Redd out for a couple days. However moving him out won’t give us 11th plot for a new villager to move in.
In the day he’s indoors, but as soon as the night comes he goes outside. On Mondays he’ll be at the museum - the bug section - to take care of all the awful creatures that Blathers is afraid of.
On Tuesdays he’s just wandering in the Nook’s Cranny until it’s closed - then he’s just walking around the island.
On Wednesdays he’s watering the flowers, of course if we have any, if we don’t -he’s just sitting under the trees if we somehow don’t have trees and flowers he’ll start looking for tarantulas/scorpions.
On Thursday he’s at the museum but this time he’s in the art section. Just v i b i n g.
And on Fridays and weekends he’s most likely to be at the plaza doing normal stuff, like yoga, sports or even singing.
Back to his house - the first room is where we can get the DIYs, it’s basically swallowed by plants and bugs. He also has a hammock to sleep in.
The second room is full of paintings.
We all know about “the incident”. In this AU Redd gets caught before he can run away, it turns out he tried to steal because he got himself in awful debt with shady people and he was simply scared that something might happen to him or his friends. Tom, even though he’s kinda angry, explains to Redd that they’re friends and he could just tell him about his problems.
Tom forgives Redd but couple days later Redd announces that he wants to move out, but his friends can still send him letters.
After couple of years Tom writes to Redd and invites him to his Deserted Island, Redd accepts the invitation. As soon as The Player moves in, Nook offers Redd his own shop but Redd refuses as he doesn’t feel like he’s worthy. Later Nook tries to find any job for Redd or pay him for what he’s doing for the Island - helping in the museum, taking care of fauna and flora, helping the Nooklings, but Redd won’t accept any money until it’s a payment for a commission.
Redd is thankful for giving him a second chance, Tom truly inspires Redd, that’s why most of his paintings are of Nook. Redd never shows any of his painting to Nook or Timmy and Tommy, he’s afraid that they’ll think that he’s weird.
Tom tries to make Redd feel like home, whenever Redd needs something - Nook helps him. Redd still feels guilty and he can’t really show that he appreciates the help. Sometimes Tom asks Redd to come and read something to the kids to sleep, of course it’s just an excuse so he can talk with Redd, otherwise that fox would be too scared to come, as Tom might bring up ‘the incident’ and put pressure on Redd. Tom obviously wouldn’t do that, but Redd just needs time to forgive himself.
Redd works day and night that’s why sometimes while reading he might fall asleep, when he does, Tom covers him with blanket. Redd likes taking care of the Nooklings, we can say that he kinda treats them like they’re his kids.
After a longer talk, Redd might feel comfy enough to joke or sometimes even dance with Tom, like everyone, Redd likes being happy
They both care about each other, they try to show it the best they can, but - Nook doesn’t want to make Redd feel anxious, and Redd still doesn’t trust Tom that much.
Redd sometimes visits the museum to help Blathers. He brings his tarantula to ‘work’ which always scares Blathers but he understands that Redd has full control over that awful creature. On Thrusdays - the-art-section-day - we can ask Redd many things about art. If he’s staring at something he’ll tell us some ineteresting things about the artwork he’s looking at. When he’s just walking around we can ask him about his art. He’ll tell us that he used to scam people with fake paintings, but now everything he has is original art.
Redd often needs to calm Blathers down, that owl hates when Flick visits him! That chameleon brings way too much bugs within one visit.
Even though Redd officially doesn’t work in the museum, he still treats Blathers as his boss, I’m pretty sure that if Blathers asked for a coffee Redd would make one for him. Redd painted a gift for Blathers for his birthday which Blathers was really thankful for… that’s probably the only reason Redd’s tarantula isn’t dead yet.
Also what’s up with that tarantula?
Well, after years of isolation and only couple of letters from time to time, for Redd it was easier to become friends with a tarantula than with the other villagers. The tarantula is named Robin, it’s a pretty pacifist creature.
Plants, oh, plants. The reason why Redd has soooo many plants is because of Leif. When Redd moved in, Leif told him about effects that certain plants have, like - lavender is calming (now Redd has awful amount of lavender is his house). It also turns out that Redd loves taking care of small cacti, daisies, roses…. They’re all very little and adorable!
He even tries crossbreeding the flowers he owns.
If he promises to be a good gardener for every plant of the island Leif gives him new flowers for free, for Leif the most important thing is to keep the Earth beautiful and healthy.
Before moving to the Island Redd didn’t really care about the nature, but now he can just sit on the ground under a tree all day long, adoring the beauty of the Island. He obviously tries his best to make this place even prettier.
Redd is a night boy, he likes meteor showers. Blathers told him a lot about Celeste and her knowledge about the stars, but it seems that Redd is a little too silly to understand most of the thing she’s telling him…
That’s all for now, I’m sorry for any mistakes, and if I forgot something (which I totally did) I’ll edit the post….
yay
