Assignment 8
Here is assignment 7. Iâm sorry itâs not inked and I didnât know I couldnât use speech bubbles of any kind, I donât have time to go back now and fix it.

Critical Thought Exercise
First off I would like to say I really like this comic, both the comic saga as well as the prelude. I know the assignment is to pick from something that I donât like, but I usually only read comics that come from other peopleâs suggestions, who usually have good taste so I donât really know any that I have a strong opinion of. Though, even though I really do love this comic there is one thing that I donât like about the comic saga and the prelude. Itâs not really the writing, the art style, the characters or anything like that, but the one thing I donât really like is the art itself. But itâs not like the creators are bad artists, they can make some beautiful pages as shown in the second image, which is from the prelude. Thatâs not saying that the first page isnât bad either, but what I donât like is all the rough sketch lines in the final product of the comic. They kind of detract from the rest of the great art on the page, it just looks like itâs not a clean picture, and it looks like a page that just has its rough lines not erased yet. Now a little bit of it is ok, it doesnât detract from the rest of the page at all, and sometimes it can highlight small details on something. It wouldnât take much too just erase those would it? I mean if it was done digitally on multiple layers you could easily just delete the layer, Iâm not entirely sure how the artists draw it and whether they draw it physically or digitally, but either way measures can be made so that they could easily be removed in Photoshop. Again other than this small thing I do enjoy the comic a lot, and if the artists somehow see this, just know I love your stuff, but this is something that I do believe detracts from the comic.
Here is the second half of the assignment 5.

Lettering and Font Practice for assignment 5.
Motion Practice page and comic page recreation for assignment 3.
And here are my 30 character drawings for my comics class. This is for assignment 2. I kinda messed up on a few of these, but there are 30 of them and I redid the ones I really messed up on. Some of them turned out really well and I kinda like them, others... Could have been better. I only spent 3 minutes on each, and Iâm sorry that I made some that were not easily recognizable characters. I made the first couple of the emotions and really enjoyed making them, it felt really natural, then I remembered some of the rules. I had already drawn them and I like the way some of them turned out.
This is for our first assignment for the class. We were toldto read a comic that we had never read before, post pictures from it and talk about it. The book I read that was provided by our professor was called Monster Zoo by Doug Tennapel, and I have to say it was pretty hilarious.
The art was really well done, I liked some of the character designs, but even more I loved the monsters. The monsters that Doug designed were great, especially their quality in artwork as well, the transformations and the weird animal abominations that terrorized the zoo were both a little creepy and amazing. The monster designs and the story in general also kind of remind me of old B rate horror movies, even the title as well. The story wasnât exactly all that unique or terribly in depth, but when was any B rate movie not like this? Even though the story was fairly simple, Doug Tannapel pulls it off very well throwing in some fun characters and great writing.
As with the feelings of B rate, the humor of it was definitely weird, funny, but weird. For instance on one of the pages above you see them talking about the little car and you get this little gem of a line âIf we hoof it weâll only risk exposure to more monsters. Plus you know, popping wheelies be bitchinâ.â I couldnât help but laugh at it. Some of the humor does seem like the kind of jokes kids made in middle school; like fart jokes, wedgies, and fake barf. Which considering his most likely targeted audience for the comic, this seems about right. At times it sounds kind of like when your parent or pastor tries to be âhip with the timesâ and âspeak the lingo of the generationâ. The writing is definitely great despite this, even with the attempt at the âkid lingoâ which although seems kind of ridiculous just gives it more charm in the end. Â I did love the writing in general it didnât seem forced very much at times, except for some of the middle school like lingo attempts, overall the writing was very enjoyable.
In the end this comic was very fun and I was very glad to have picked it up. The characters were fun, the monsters were great, the humor was hilarious, and the artwork is amazing. I recommend this to anyone who loves a good cheesy story every now and then.
