Protests around the relocation of a base being built at Henoko in Okinawa have renewed. The Japanese government gave approval for the US to build a new base in Henoko which would replace the existing one. However many citizens claim that the Japanese government did not properly seek out Okinawa’s approval for the base. Okinawa filed a lawsuit in July claiming that proper approval wasn’t meant for the relocation. 

Many protesters explain their reason for the protest is because a base will only encourage war and not bring about peace. Those who support the construction have claimed that the US is one of Japan’s strongest allies and a renewed base would keep china and North Korea at bay. This speaking point was only encouraged with the recently land slide victory of the LDP. A party which has recently pushed for a larger platform in self-defense and alley ship with the US.
