DC Fun Fact #4
Fawcett City resident William "Billy" Batson (no relation) holds the record for largest number of legal caregivers in the history of the United States. After he was revealed to be none other than Justice League member Captain Marvel in 2023, the city unanimously voted to adopt the then homeless orphan.
How does this work? Well, the mayor of Fawcett City likened Batson's situation to that of a "community cat": "We all just sort of feed him when he shows up, and make sure we leave a window open so he can come and curl up on our couches."
I cannot get over CC Batson being this paragon of loving husband and devoted father.
Like I need Billy's relationship expectations to be astronomical.
I need his idea of how you treat family to be so freaking insainly devoted that the JL just genuinely have no idea what to do.
Like Cap takes every single shift or mission that he can.
Flash has a date? Go for it man I got watch duty.
GL doesn't feel like going off world to deal with a civil war on some random planet? I gotchu don't ever think about it, I have time and you should get some rest, relax while you can.
Martian Manhunter finished his last oreo after a bad invasion attempt? Cap is immediately flying down to earth and taking the little money he scrounge up from working as cap at the docs to buy him a new pack and leave it at his door.
And like he does this all the time. He is heart of gold because his dad and mom were liquid love. They would do anything for their family and never, not once, did they think about needing praise for doing it because it made them feel good helping and their partner was already thanking them with a kiss on the cheek and a small smile.
The JL has to look at this golden retriever of a man and realize that he treats them all like they are so incredibly precious. He offers compliments and praise as often as he blinks. The fondness he has for each and every member he gets to know is only overshadowed by his tendency to reach out to every person avaliable.
Whether or not these members, including the YJ see him as a father figure or a brother figure or as simply a friend doesn't matter, all they know is that the Captain would do absolutely anything for every single one of them and they have to be mindful to never take advantage and to remember to appreciate it, because as they all know, good times don't tend to last, so they have to protect this man with all they are worth.

Billy’s Ideal Hero
Billy has had so so so many years to think about being the ideal hero. He’s finally come to the conclusion as to what being the ideal hero is.
It’s being super mysterious and suave. Mary thought him that last word.
Thankfully, he came to this conclusion before he started fully interacting with the public so no one needs to know about his normal, not hero-like self.
Billy didn’t realize how much of an impact this persona had on history and other heroes in general. The first time he found this out was, after the time bubble popped, when he was in DC because he needed to talk with some government people. On his way back to Fawcett, before he could leave the city, he spotted some kids bullying another, and he swiftly put a stop to it.
Marvel: *lands behind them with a smile* “I think it’d be wise for you boys to stop.”
Bullies: *turn and scream before running off*
Marvel: “Now then, are you alright?” *picks up some books on the ground*
Kid: *gobsmacked and takes the books back*
Marvel: *raises a brow but starts to float off the ground so he can fly off again*
Kid: “WAIT! WAIT! Are you the real deal?”
Marvel: “Yes? Why wouldn’t I be?”
Kid: “That’s… Awesome!”
The kid started yapping and yapping about something Billy didn’t entirely understand. The kid then shifted his books around so he could get to a history textbook.
Kid: *flips to a page* “This is you, right? You said this!” *shows it to Billy*
it was a black and white picture of him, making a speech in front of a crowd.
“It is a heroes job to protect anyone they can. Weak or strong, black or white, man or woman. It should not ever matter. If it does, you were simply never a hero in the first place.”
— Captain Marvel, circa 1949
It took every bone in Marvel’s body to not scrunch his face and look away and embarrassment because WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE’S IN THE TEXTBOOKS?! But alas, he has to remain that cool mysterious disposition.
The second time he realized the impact of this persona was when he was also in another city. Metropolis. See, he’d wanted to talk to this so called “Superman” but before he could, a giant foreign aircraft made itself known. Naturally, he went through the proper proceedings of telling the aircraft to leave and that it was in a foreign airspace. Instead of leaving it shot at him. None of its weird doohickies worked though. How humans have developed… Anyways, that ended up with him luring the ship to the middle of nowhere. After all, he would never fight it in a city. He’d have to be an idiot to do that.
He took care of the ship itself in a minute, his lightning frying it. Then he took care of the invaders inside. Turns out they were from a different planet. He took care of them in a couple minutes. In the end, he was covered in alien guts and picking it out of his suit and gloves.
After Marvel steps out of the ship…
Supes: *standing there confused as to why the aliens weren’t attacking and suddenly sees Marvel and stares*
Marvel: *stares back and stops picking alien intestine out of the hood of his cape* (idk I just like it whenever he has a hood on his cape. Think of the injustice version of him if you don’t know what I mean)
*silence*
Marvel: “I presume you’re Superman?” *steps forward, ignoring that he’s covered in blood because that wouldn’t be very mysterious or suave of him to acknowledge*
Supes: “Uh…” *looks behind Marvel and sees a bunch of dead aliens* “Yes?”
Marvel: “Wonderful!” *moves in front of Clark, takes off a glove (Yes he also wears gloves because I really like his injustice costume if you ignore all the black and replace it with either red or white) and holds out a hand for a shake* “It’s amazing to meet a new hero, let alone one from outside of Fawcett.”
Supes: “Really? It’s a pleasure to meet you too, sir.” *shakes his hand*
And it really was, even if Clark kept looking between Marvel and the aliens because he hadn’t heard a single sound of pain from the ship. That either meant Marvel did it quickly or he did it quietly. Clark wasn’t sure which was better. It was still a shock to see a revered hero, a hero Clark actually idolized, look like the person responsible for a massacre.
The two talked though and Clark wasn’t picking up any homicidalness so…? They actually managed to get smoothies after the Captain cleaned himself up with magic. Clark didn’t even know how they ended up in a smoothie joint. It’s just the other hero was so- so- so suave and mysterious. It reminded Clark a wee inseey weesy bit of Bruce. (Billy would internally cheer upon realizing that his persona was working) The other hero was also extremely easy to talk to and actually liked a lot of things Clark did, like reporting!
it almost made the kryptonian forget about the fact he was pretty sure the other man massacred a bunch of aliens. Almost. He brought it up to Batman immediately after their little little hangout session.
he’s got that previously neglected shelter dog rizz. he looks like he wants to quietly sit next to you on the couch while you watch TV
he looks like he lets out a pathetic sad little sigh sometimes for no reason
"They're going to bury you three feet deep, because you've only ever been half a man" sounds like a raw ass line from Shakespeare or something buts actually from me yelling at my cat for stealing my sandwich while I was getting a drink.
Bro got posessed by the spirit of a king who'd been betrayed by his eunuch advisor.
Respect
Captain Marvel is a marvelous hero. He was one of the first. He was a a brilliant man who helped all over the country, not just his hometown of Fawcett. And although this went for about every other hero that churned out of Fawcett as well, This man helped with construction, the wars, the people. He was revered. He was respected. He was powerful. But most importantly, he was kind. That was what won over a majority of the American peoples soon after his debut. That was what made him the hero of that time. That’s why when he and the other Fawcett heroes suddenly disappeared, the people were distraught. There was memorial after memorial for them all. Most were for the Captain though.
So yes, it’s been established already that he’s had a big impact on America, but one could argue it’s way deeper than that. He was, and still is the blueprint for how a hero should act or look like. When the hero Superman first made his debut, people, especially older people liked the similarities they shared. When Flash debuted he was also well liked among older people for his similar costume to the Captain. When Americans found out Wonder Woman was related to the Greek Gods, she was liked too because the Cheese got his powers from the Gods.
Old Man: “You’re the daughter of Zues?”
Old Lady: “Wasn’t Captain Marvel the son of Zeus?”
Old Man: “No, no, he just got his powers from him. At least I think so. It was in the newspaper some many years ago.”
Wondy: “Who’s this… Captain Marvel?”
Old Lady: “One of the best men to come from this country.”
Old Man: “That doesn’t explain anything, Gertie. He was a wonderful hero from when we were children. He disappeared in about ‘62 last I recall.”
Wondy: “A hero that drew power from Zeus… How could he have disappeared?”
Old Lady: “No one knows.” *shrugs* “One day, he and the other Fawcett heroes up and disappeared along with the city itself.”
His impact wasn’t just on heroing of course. This extended to multiple other things. Middle schoolers have a history unit dedicated to the Fawcett heroes. He was honest to God, the beauty standard for men during a resurgence in the 90s. There are posters and photos in a multitude of places from the Whitehouse to a random Ihop in Los Angeles. There are schools named after him and other Fawcett heroes.
Couple: *looking around the lobby of an ihop and spots a photo on a bulletin board* “Is that Captain Marvel…?”
Hostess: “Yes! He came here in 1959. He apparently got some breakfast with some of his hero buddies and took the photo with the owner. Your table will be this way.”
Couple: “Gosh, I used to think he was so cool as a kid.” *follow after the hostess*
When the time bubble finally popped, the entire country was blindsided by the fact that their hero was back in the flesh. He looked exactly the same, acted exactly the same, and still had that exact warm smile.
Marvel: “It’s wonderful to meet you, Mr. Superman Sir.” *puts hand out for a handshake*
Supes: *inner fangirlling because oh my Rao, this guy is practically his idol and he just called Clark both Mister and Sir* “It’s wonderful to meet you too.” *shakes his hand*
The hero worship wasn’t exclusive to just heroes who were kids. No, no, kids, teens, adults, elderly, most heroes think he’s absolutely amazing. Even Batman! They look up to this guy just as much as the regular elderly civilian who was alive before Marvel had been caught in Suspendium.
The most interesting part about all of this in some people’s opinions are that it was like the Cheese had never even left. He still unknowingly evokes respect whenever he walks into a room. He could still make kids smile with a glance. His power had certainly never waned either during the time he was gone. He was still just a marvelous hero.

Meanwhile during all of this, Billy is internally confused at everything in the modern world and is just trying to handle it the way he normally would. It seems to be working.

Found an old video in my google drive.
Ok, so I can't be the only non content creator that gets pissed off when they see stolen work, right?? Like, I have tik tok, and those ripped off Tumbler posts come across my fyp (sometimes from blogs I already follow) and it incites this rage in me to see so many people actively ignoring that it is stolen content. Unfortunately, I think tik tok is overwhelmingly becoming full of lazy theifs who steal content (not just off of tumbler, but radio shows have had their audios ripped off, youtubers have had their videos taken and grafted onto others as well). It bothers me that I have to take the time out of my day to leave a comment to remind them that theft is not a victimless crime, and yes, they are bad people for doing it. Because like... apparently, their parents were simply too absent to teach them this basic lesson.
@stealingyourbones I'm sorry that I've seen this happen to you so often, it's not right.
