CMU Fence

The Fence "rules" require at least two colors, which usually means a base coat and then lettering.Base coat: you can do a single coat depending on what colors you're using. A single coat of white over black might not work, but black over purple will be fine. Plan for two coats if you want a very clean color, which probably means two cans (there will be some leftover). If you want to wing it with one can for one coat, that's probably doable. But cheap paint is like $6 a can or something?Lettering: One can and there will be some leftover. I suggest going slowly with lettering to avoid drippings. Wipe your brushes off on the side of the can and paint with the wiped-off side. The paint will come through! And start from the middle of symmetrical letters (like O) so it's not too high/low. And maybe have the same person lightly paint them and have others go over it? Just some tips, but really, do what you want!Brushes: Not rollers, not spray paint. That said, cheapest brushes you can get are definitely good enough. Although you'll want fairly large ones since the Fence is big. Heck, I painted the Fence with rolled up and frayed newspaper once in a pinch.Where?: The closest place for paint is a Sherwin Williams on Centre near S. Aiken (a 71A or 71C can be caught at Fifth/Craig and taken there). Their number is 412-687-0399. I suspect they may be more expensive than Home Depot, which is farther, in East Liberty. Home Depot's number is 412-363-5160. You can take the 71B from Fifth/Morewood, down Highland to Home Depot's very own stop (right after Station St.)Suggestion: Bring a rolling suitcase or empty backpacks. Paint cans hurt hands with their thin metal handles even though they aren't that heavy on their own.

Late March, 2013 The Sigma Chis had begun to hold the Fence for Derby Days, but then someone (Student Senate?) wanted to make a nice tartan-y Fence for Dr. Cohon. Definitely a classy Fence!

April 10, 2013 Not a great shot, but PiKA has taken the Fence and written their new members on it, I think.

late March through the first week of April, 2013 Sigma Chi takes the Fence to promote Derby Days, a fundraiser that makes all the sororities compete against each other. (The stencils are a nice touch)

Campus Super Star! I’m liking that accent post!

Not sure what org or event this is for, but the lettering is really nice.
