~racism in riverdale~
(just a list of things I've noticed)
every character of color is a significant other with no legitimate character development (ex: toni, fangs, valerie, later joise, even fucking veronica)
the entire season 2 jughead plotline was him spearheading a campaign for the serpents that was mainly nonwhite people. we had not only just joined the group after having wildly ignorant beliefs about them, but literally decided to take on their oppression as his own while ignoring the underlying race and gender inequality within the group.
jughead treats every serpent (besides himself) as though they are criminals. even though he participated in selling drugs, physically assaulted penny peabody, helped to hide a dead body, and much much more.
making betty the serpent queen as a white woman who had been a member for maybe a month or two max, even though toni has been a lifelong member and dedicated herself to the group.
the serpents are supposed to be a group formed with some regards to indigenous people kicked off land. So why is everyone in position of power (FP, jughead, betty, tall boy) white and predominantly male?
bottom line: the serpents and their storylines were extremely unclear and had a lot of racist and sexist undertones
JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS. josie, melody, and valerie were the only black characters in riverdale for a long time. they had some of the only 'political storylines' and regularly sang about empowerment. Even in the beginning of the show melody had maybe one line that I heard and we knew nothing about her. Valerie pretty much disappeared after she was used as a love interest for archie, and Joise was an actual character for a while but was again reduced to a love interest and then written out. Joise especially had so many more stories to tell as a black woman in the music industry. She had conflict with her dad a demanding mother and was now in an interesting family situation with the Kellers. Instead of using up the last moments of her time on riverdale to have a romantic fling with archie of all people she could have had a PLOT.
Chuck Clayton. They brought him on and villanized him for all of season 1 as a sexist (deservedly so) they brought him on for ONE EPISODE of season two to redeem him and we have not seen him since. Hes the only black male character we had and he deserved to have more. Also it's worth noting that they choose a black man to be the main villain in this arch, the first and only black male for quite a long time. There were other choices.
With the pussycats and chuck you can make the claim that they were only written out because the actors left, while that does have truth you have to ask yourself why they all as black actors decided to leave. all of their storylines were pushed out of the way to make way for the 'core four + cheryl's storylines which is problematic bc besides veronica they are all white
TONI. This girl has no backstory and literally serves to further Cheryl's storyline at this point. As much as I love choni throughout season 3 and beginning of season 4 their relationship was quite toxic (mainly due to cheryl). Toni has never existed as her own character. If shes considered a lead she can have her own plot once in a while (not tickling with Kevin and reggie plz tho).
Reggie is an asian man and has a demanding rich successful father (stteryotypes). his abuse has never really been resolved and he continues to have some of the worst plots.
sweet pea, fangs, joaquin. All of these characters just up and disappear and come back like twice a season to be used as plot devices.
archie and his whole ass storyline. hes acting in this 'white saviour complex' and it's downright gross. I understood at the beginning when he was working with mad dog but the whole superhero plotline really took it up a notch to ridiculousness.
veronica deserves better in general. they have her speak spanish every few episodes in some of the most unnatural dialogue I've heard in my life and her plot either revolves around her dad or her boyfriend
Urgh, so I was rewatching Riverdale like the Riverdale trash I am and I wanted to focus on Archies ‘the place it all went wrong’.
We know that the moment it all went wrong with Betty is when he rejected her. We know this because she is adorned in the dress she wore in season one when she was rejected by Archie.
We know that Veronica is dressed in the same clothes she wore when she first met Betty and Archie, when Archie became fascinated with her, leading us to believe that this was also a key moment to when it all went wrong.
And Jug?
Well Jug is dressed in the clothes he was wearing when it was announced that he and Betty had a moment and were a thing. Which can only lead us to conclude that the very idea that he had lost Betty entirely was a pivotal moment where it all went wrong for Archie.
Whether he realised it at the time or not, losing Betty is the key theme in all of these moments.
Every single one relates solely to a pivotal time that took Betty away from him. A moment that either steered him away from her, or made her unattainable and out of his reach.
Losing Betty was the very moment when Archie Andrews lost his way, and left him beating himself up over it (quite literally). He hated himself for being weak, he hated himself for hurting those he cared about, and all those moments pointed directly to Betty. He hated that he hurt Betty, he sees himself as weak for letting her slip through his grasp.
He lost his way when he lost Betty and by extension, lost his ‘light’.
alright brb i’m going to be crying for the next few weeks
My question is WHY did they feel the need to bait us one last time if they're just gonna take all of it away. Especially after spending FOUR seasons dropping hints and glimmers. Like if this was just a 'in love with the idea of you' type plot they owe Barchie fans reperations for putting us through all this.
When Charles calls Jughead “little brother” in front of Jughead’s girlfriend who is also Charles’ sister.

serenate and barchie really be the same couple in different fonts and we’re shipping both in this house
“Kissing each other is the worst thing they could have done!”
After four seasons of suppressed feelings and pent-up tension, you’re lucky they were only kissing and weren’t banging on the garage floor, bye
the fact that people are saying Archie was horrible to Betty and he hurt her and all this stuff makes like 0 sense. Please don't forget he didn't 'choose' Grundy over her. He was 15 years old in a sexual relationship with an adult who had authority over him. Maybe he consented but he was clearly manipulated and if that happened in real life Grundy would be a criminal and Archie would've gone to therapy. Even disregarding the Grundy relationship he never said he didn't love Betty he said he felt like she was too good for him (probably bc he saw himself as damaged or broken bc he was again being manipulated and grommed by an adult).
Stop treating archie like he's a manwhore bc he was in a situation with Grundy and never got to deal with it. He's. A. Victim.
(sorry thank you for coming to my Ted talk)
I don't even really ship jeronica but the prospect of a Jughead and Veronica revenge fling 👌
Like loook at them!!!

B*gheads claiming the Barchie is fan service while in the same breath claiming that literally 5% of the fandom ships Barchie is truly baffaling. Also please explain how a couple that is in the forefront of the comics the show is based off of is out of left field? When B*ghead never fucking happened in the comics?
i stopped watching riverdale towards the end of season three, but you all better believe i’m gonna watch tonight’s episode live.
that’s the power of barchie
We love to see it ❤️
Spoiler below folks
Hi regardless of what happens they kissed and continued to kiss after pulling back so I will be accepting your Barchie had no chemistry apologies now
I think people who are so currently so against Barchie dating on the show at this point are mad because they are in other relationships, with each other’s best friends. And those relationships have been strong for the most part (Bughead has appeared stronger than Varchie the past few weeks). So I think that’s why people are struggling with it so much and want it to be closure more so than dating. It’s just a big transition that will impact/ hurt many characters
I think that’s totally fair. I think the disconnect comes from understanding that what you want to see from a relationship, or even a show, isn’t always what’s going to propel the show forward.
I know that sounds controversial, but i’m not going to bend on that. I don’t necessarily think cheating was the best decision, but I do see how using that as a mistake made by two characters will set this show in a polarizing new direction, and push the core 4 forward in different ways. Conflict is what makes a show, and characters have to be allowed flaws and to make mistakes–even if they are impulsive. It heightens stakes in a character driven way that Riverdale usually doesn’t invest itself in exploring, and that’s just part of the writing process.
So while it is completely, 100% understandable for people to not want to see it, or want to see their characters hurting or doing bad things, it’s still a valid method of storytelling on a show in the genre of Riverdale (or any show ever, really). The two aren’t mutually exclusive, and fans and writers come at content from different perspectives, and with different motivations.
That’s just the way it goes.
we are getting barchie and biarchie. we love to see it.

Me and the rest of the Barchie fandom: sits through FOUR seasons of B*ghead content with crumbs pushed our way without large amounts of complaint.
B*gheads: can't fathom sitting through a singular episode revolving around a potential b and a romance
Me and the rest of the Barchie fandom: surprised for some reason
if i was betty cooper i too would cheat on my loser bullied loner step brother with my hot jock popular sweet best friend next door
