The blush on her face doesn’t go away as she does her best to not look at Kaedin, “Um… o-okay then…”

This was too much. Avius felt like the world was spinning. Her brain couldn’t continue like this

Oh, Kaedin is loving this. He sees the embarrassment and discomfort in her features. And he’s thriving.

Avius feels like she blew a fuse with how red her face got when the subject was changed. She was a stranger! How could someone be so comfortable? 

“Um… uhh…” she didn’t know what to say.

Kaedin does his best not to look smug at her, but fails spectacularly. He bites his lip when he realises his lips curl into that smile.

There has to be a reason for why he said it like that but won’t question is further. Whatever it is, it’s his and his business alone, “Does she usually go out on her own? Or did she escape?” Avius asks. Her cats come and go whenever but not everyone’s pets are like that.

“Oh, she’s usually pretty good! She leaves when she wants to, and returns when she wants to. Unless I need her, then she returns quicker.” Kaedin says, obviously happy to be talking about his cat. Then he shakes his head a little.

She blinks, “She… named herself?” she doesn’t know what to say or think anymore, “And she named herself Grandma?”

Avius understands that cats do whatever they want. She has two back home and they will do anything unless they think someone is a threat to her and start getting aggressive. She’s glad they didn’t follow her here.

Kaedin looks around himself, then back at Avius.

“I mean,” he starts. “I named her?” he doesn’t sound too sure of himself. That’s what pet owners do, right? Name their pets? He nods to himself. “Yeah, I named her. Definitely.”

“Thank you-” Avius stops mid sentence, “You’re… you’re cat’s name is Grandma?” She looks around. She hasn’t seen a cat but she didn’t think cat’s would like hanging on people’s shoulders, “I haven’t. Sorry.”

“Oh, that’s okay!” he says, looks around. “She… does what she wants, really. I don’t think anyone can get cats to do anything.” he sighs.

Avius accepts the gesture. She wonders if this is how people from different places greet each other. In her small village it’s very different.

“I’m Avius but you can call me Avi if it’s easier.” she gives a small smile.

“Avius, that’s a beautiful name.” Kaedin nods as he speaks, then looks at her with a smile, trying to be friendly.

Kaedin flashes her a big smile.

“No problem!” he says, then holds out a hand. “I’m Kaedin, by the way.”

          For years halloween has been more about spending time at home, binging some dumb series and stuffing himself with as much candy and junkfood as he can. Especially since it’s the one day where Specs won’t complain about it. Like some kind of cheat day.

         But, not this year it seems.

         “If you die, do I get your candy?” It’s a joke of course but paying 40 bucks for a haunted house is a lot of money so it better be worth it. He could be spending that money on fries instead! Or the arcade!

 “Also sorry for dragging you to this. I can tell you’d rather be anywhere but here.” She’s been searching for a haunted house that would scare her, seeing  as all the ones she’s gone to haven’t scared her. Jump scares last only a few seconds. She wants something to really scare her, which was why they were there in the first place despite the cost.
