The survival of the fictive Robinson family has captured our imagination since the early 19th century. Its space adventures arrived to the TV set on 1965, and are now coming back via Netflix in yet another revival of an older TV show. The 1965 silver spacesuits obviously inspired by the Gemini suits of the era.  The current suits seem to prepare the family to any kind of enviroment and emergency be it by air (or lack there of) water or terrain. 

Gemini 3 crew astronauts “Gus” grissom and John Young in their silver Gemini G3C spacesuits and portable air conditioners.  On March 23, 1965 they spent 88 minutes in Space, orbitting our planet 3 times and performed the first orbital manouver made by a manned spacecraft.  Nasa’s Gemini program - as in twins - to hint the Apollo program mission - sending two-men crew spacecrafts to space.

Alien (part 3)

“Alien”s production designer Michael Symour described the pressure suits as medieval Japanese armor, with a gothic feel because of the rich texture. Original design by Jean Giraud (Moebius). The final suit was designed by John Mollo. 

My favorite fictive astronaut is Ellen Ripley from Ridley Scott’s  “Alien” (1979) and my next posts will be dedicated to her. Famous as a colaboration of artists, we usually remember H.G. Giger’s contribution in creating the visuals of the actual alien. But another famous name is connected to this project, Moebius (pen name of French comic artist Jean Giraud). Beside his contribution to the Alien story board, he has also worked on Tron and The Fifth Element.
