her first word was Azriel - Rhys was scolding him for being reckless during a trip, azriel stormed out the room to which Rhys screamed out his name and feysand's daughter imitated him saying "az..ee...el". Az winnows straight back to the room beside her shock and joy on his face as Rhys tries to get her to say it again

she'll shriek with laughter when he comes back from a trip (ofc be brings nyx and his favourite niece heaps of presents each time) and runs into his arms. Az doesn't say it but you can see how much he adores her regardless of the fact that she's always following him and asking him questions - even the ones that no one's asked before. his niece is the first girl to love him unconditionally without anything to hold her back from showing it.

at night she sneaks into Az's room and sits next to him as he reads his reports - he ofc wraps her around with his wings as his shadows sing her lullabies. she does this so much that he ends up getting plushies and toys for her to play with in his room.

“It’s fine. I came to retrieve something I forgot.” The lie was smooth and cool, as he knew his face was. His shadows peered over his wings at her.

The young priestess smiled — and Azriel thought it might have been directed at his curious shadows. […]

“How was the party?” Her breath curled in front of her mouth, and one of his shadows darted out to dance with it before twirling back to him. Like it heard some silent music. […]

It wasn’t a guarantee that a High Lord’s firstborn would be his heir. The magic sometimes took a while to decide, and often jumped around the birth order completely. Sometimes it found a cousin instead. Sometimes it abandoned the bloodline entirely. Or chose the heir in that moment of birth, in the echoes of a newborn’s first cries.
