I am OBSESSED with people telling me how they met the love of their life. Just found out my director met his wife through a misdirected email - that’s fate right there.
“I saw her last name was Jewish - and I’m Jewish, so when I corrected the email I told her Shabbat Shalom with a smiley face — this was the very beginning of the emoticon era, you understand. She had a watermark of a dog rescue at the bottom of her email, and I love dogs, so I found her website and there she was — all these videos of her rehabilitating dogs and talking about the organization. I fell in love with her just from those videos.”

That ol' Roy DeSoto could be a bit of a Sneaky Pete
One of many high qualities Roy possessed was that of honesty and integrity. In "How Green Was My Thumb" from season 3, ep 18, Roy even tells an irritated Johnny that his objective for watering Mrs. Johnson's plants while she was hospitalized was not due to him being "taken in by a pretty face". And that Mrs. Johnson being "incredible" (in Johnny's words) was not one of the reasons why Roy helped her.
I think Roy playing innocent however, was torpedo'd by his mere pleased smile as both he and Johnny left Mrs. Johnson's hospital room. Look at that scamp's face! 😄 And while you're at it, look at Johnny's expression. More death glares. lol. He was something else, wasn't he?
Johnny, you were just bamboozled by your partner.

In the next scene at the squad, Roy couldn't take the cold shoulder treatment from Johnny for long before he said, "Alright, out with it."
They really were something else to watch, weren't they?

Poor Johnny
I've been thinking about Emergency! a lot lately; what else is new? Anyway, I've found myself saying "Poor Johnny" constantly. Of course there are times when other characters go through it, but Johnny seems to get the brunt of it.
Sometimes it's just as part of the more comical part of the episode, and I get it; but I can't help but feel sorry for him anyway. I mean that's pretty much the entire Phantom storyline. I'm going to focus mainly on the less obvious moments, so not Virus, Frequency, Snakebite, or The Nuisance - obviously these truly are "poor Johnny" moments (there are probably more, but those are the first to spring to mind).
In season one, there are a few moments, like working for pretty much a week straight to look after Bonnie in Mascot, I'm surprised he wasn't forced to go home. There's also the entire episode where he loses poker constantly and ends up with the dishes.
There are even more in season two, but I'm at season three in my rewatch, so I won't delve into those too much either, other than to say that one of the more comedic ones was in Show Biz. I know the client chose Roy as someone who looks more like a fireman than Johnny because he's a main character and it technically makes more sense. But it is the final scene and I can't help thinking that it would have been funnier to choose Mike Stoker.
In Messin' Around, (apart from the Phantom) there is the debacle with the mother of the child he saves. I don't think he ever led her to believe that he was in charge; he awkwardly tried to correct her in the treatment room and she didn't believe him. Then Johnny gets latrine duty. What happens next shift? She wants a tour of "his" station. I think he just gave up trying to correct her when she seems to insist that he's being modest.
If I'm not careful, this post will end up as a 5000 word, poorly written, essay. So, I'll leave it here. I'll probably do it anyway, but if anyone is interested I was thinking of doing a series of posts about this, so it doesn't end up being a giant wall of text. As I said, I know other characters go through it, but I have a soft spot for Johnny, he's my favourite.
I didn't even get to the episode that was the reason for the post (Honest). I have a lot of thoughts... apparently.
I hope you do add some more analysis or thoughts on the writing of the episodes; I eat any of it up! 😊 Enjoyed this write up.

The Harvey Girls was released in the US on 18 January 1946.
Based on Samuel Hopkins Adams' 1942 novel, MGM had initially purchased the rights in order to make a dramatic vehicle for Lana Turner, but after seeing Oklahoma! on Broadway (which had opened in 1943), the studio decided to rework the material in a musical specifically for Judy Garland.
Johnny Mercer and Harry Warren wrote the songs for the film, which included "On the Atchison, Topeka, and the Santa Fe," which was a #1 hit for Mercer, Tommy Dorsey (#6), and Judy Garland (#10). The song would go on to receive the Oscar for Best Original Song (Lennie Hayton's score was nominated but did not win).
The film reunited Garland with her Wizard of Oz (193) co-star Ray Bolger, and was the first speaking role for Cyd Charisse (her singing was dubbed by Marion Doenges).

Every day I'm sorry that there was no episode of Emergency! where they have to work on Christmas. It would have been so great with Christmas themed rescues like a collapsed store Santa or a Christmas lights explosion or a candle-caused house fire.
