People often have this discussion if they like "Soft Remus" better or "angry Remus" better, and for me I think they can both coexist. Remus has so many reasons to be angry at the world, and I love letting him be angry, because there’s a world where Remus never lets himself show his true emotions because he’s afraid everyone will think it’s just the wolf in him. But I also love that quote that says "you don't know how much violence it took for me to be this gentle," because that’s exactly how I see him. His gentleness isn’t the absence of anger but the discipline of it. It’s him choosing softness even when bitterness feels easier, choosing kindness even when cruelty would be more justified. And I think that’s why all these versions of Remus people debate over aren’t contradictions but just facets of the same boy who has suffered too much.
