The Enigma of Amigara Fault

This short story by Junji Ito is about a fault that appears in Amigara mountain after an earthquake. The earthquake exposes countless human-shaped holes in the mountain which seem to have been made about a thousand years ago. People, intrigued by these  silhouettes, gather at the site and that’s when things get creepy.

for example:

"he is a tall, dark skinned man."

but if you add an extra comma, it becomes

"he is a tall, dark, skinned man."

now that imagery is stuck in your mind.

you go to bed and you try to close your eyes, but every time, you see him, standing there in your door frame.

why didn't you listen to your english teacher? why didn't you listen to that one annoying reddit comment?

each time you blink, you watch him take a step forward. he wants to feel the warmth of skin again.

how long can you keep staring up at the ceiling? your eyes are drying out and starting to water. minutes become hours as you hold back exhaustion. your eyelids are so heavy now, so very heavy...

...and when they start to droop, he comes back into focus...
