obviously a deal hasn’t been made yet, but the company is very openly wanting to buy tumblr and if that happens i’m removing all my art from this website, and depending on any changes they make i’ll likely just leave the site completely. i for one was enjoying the nsfw ban and less bots…….

after the nsfw ban awhile back pornhub was encouraging artists to post their digital art to their site because it was ~welcomed~ and everyone then found out their tos/agreement is a nightmare and they basically own everything on their sites owned by mindgeek and could do what they wanted with your art/potentially profit off of it. also, again, i do not want my art associated with a porn company. at all.

You know that’s literally impossible, right? Like, they literally cannot do that and are not doing that. If somebody takes your content and uploads it somewhere, it does not belong to the person who uploaded it and by extension not to anywhere they gave it to. Somebody else cannot exchange ownership of content that they do not own in the first place, and pornhub will remove stolen content if it is reported to them. You’re either ignorant or lying.

Most sites have something in their T&Cs about having rights to any content that you upload there, that isn’t to steal your content, that’s so that they’re allowed to have your content up on their site, they’re allowed to host it, to create a URL for the image, to allow other users to reblog/retweet/share it, and so on - if they didn’t have that, then you could basically upload your work onto their site and then immediately sue them for hosting your work. However, company policy will not affect tumblr T&Cs until if/when they alter tumblr T&Cs, and you as a customer are not beholden to rules that you didn’t agree to.

Subscribers retain ownership and/or other applicable rights in Subscriber Content, and Tumblr and/or third parties retain ownership and/or other applicable rights in all Content other than Subscriber Content.

You retain ownership you have of any intellectual property you post to Tumblr
