After feeling the air in the room, Floyd starts to get into what Clementine has to say. Floyd puts a hand up to wave it around limply at the wrist, gesturing for no reason other than to move. "My kind of guy," he says with a smile, "who needs perfect grades when it technically passes, and you got somethin' else going on for you."
Floyd is self-aware of his grades and how self-servicing this conversation seems on the outside. He's known for being bored and whisking away whoever catches his fancy or intercepts his path. He knows what it looks like to agree, but he's being honest to some extent on the topic. If his first-year year was anything to go by, he doesn't care about upholding grades over joy in the subject. Especially math.
He answers Clementine's response to grades first and then goes free. "But Goldfishie is a bit of a short fuse with a short viewpoint to the short amount of time we share at this school," Floyd's smirk at the punching jabs showed they were intentional, "And you won't hear me complain about leaving!"
He could already feel the librarians staring him down, and he was ready to leave before they asked him to.
"My kind of guy," Clementine smiled at the show of camaraderie, "who needs perfect grades when it technically passes, and you got somethin' else going on for you."
Right!! Floyd gets it!!
He went on to comment on some of Riddle's shorter qualities, and Clementine couldn't help but smile mischievously with him. He was already putting his notebooks away into his (designer, obviously) bag when Floyd agreed to his proposition, and not a moment too soon if the librarian's expressions were anything to go by. He wondered if Floyd was infamous around here... from what he had heard about the guy? He could imagine.
He was happy to leave the library, taking a breath of fresh air, letting the sun shine on his face. And his weather app said it was going to rain today-- ha!
"So," he twirled around on the spot, facing Floyd with a flourish, hands demurely clasped behind his back "Did you have a preference for anything in particular? We could go to the cafeteria, walk in the woods-- hey, you're on the basketball team, aren’t you? Maybe you could show me how to shoot a basket, I bet you look really cool on the court." He looked up at Floyd, though he wasn't much shorter than him. Maybe about... 7 or 8 centimeters? He tilted his head so that the small height difference was emphasized. "Or maybe you'd like to show me your room?" he smiled.
The eyelash fluttering didn't go unnoticed, but it was first and foremost the words he spoke that got Floyd's full attention, and for a second he was hopeful he hadn't heard right. It wasn't because Callaway had done anything wrong, but...
Floyd's face soured at the sound of discrete mathematics being mentioned, or perhaps even having to look at it again. His features morph from a lazy grin all the way to deflated and nose-scratching. "Ew, is that the integers and boolean values thing that I had to sit through? Yeah, I took it while I was fresh meat here."
Below his normal speaking volume, he drops a quick, "But not because I wanted to."
Floyd can already feel the year-long progression of Trein drilling into him all the math he could, while Floyd had been stupidly optimistic with Jade taking the classes with him. Turns out, patterns fell more into Floyd's camp, and Jade had to drift onto other subjects with a smile on his stupid face. All the while, Floyd was forced to figure out where he got lost in exportation.
He shook his head as he continued on. "And strawberry chocolates, apparently. The only success I've had with them is dark ruby chocolates. And for Goldfishie, he's a real hard-working guy, so maybe not making his job harder, I dunno." He throws his hands behind his head, cradling it as he rocks a bit from thought.
"Ew, is that the integers and boolean values thing that I had to sit through? Yeah, I took it while I was fresh meat here." Clementine didn't miss the quiet "But not because I wanted to."
The horror. He couldn't imagine taking this as a freshman... he could barely understand it now.
Strawberry chocolates, eh? Somehow that seemed very fitting. Chocolate as ruby red at the face of the one devouring it-- though 'devour' seemed like too ferocious a verb for Riddle's frame. He'd probably eat them gracefully-- now there was a man who understood the value of good posture. Clementine finally straightened himself out.
He pouted up at Floyd, eyes begging for sympathy, before leaning back in his chair and closing his eyes, down but not defeated. 'Hardworking guy' he says. 'Making his job harder' he says. If Riddle would stop caring so much about what Clementine did (or didn't do) then he'd be less stressed, it was that simple. It's not like he was failing his classes, he passed all his tests and turned in most of his homework-- would a C here or a B there really bring down the Heartslabyul average that much? He doubted it. Mostly because he had been proofing averages for the last thirty minutes.
"What about making my job easier? I work hard too, you know. It's exhausting being this close to perfect" he was joking, of course. Half joking.
"It's not my fault if I can't understand this-- I tried, okay? I did my best but it's not going to happen," he closed the book. "My brain is totally fried..." he looked up at Floyd again, eyes sparkling with hope. "Wanna get out of here?"
Floyd probably had a reason for coming to the library, but Clementine was hoping he would ditch that to hang out with him. He was tired of being here, he wanted to walk around with Floyd, maybe gossip about some of their classmates, see where things went. He could even buy him something from Sam's shop to make him stick around; but if Floyd wanted to hang around here, he supposed he could do that too. They could play hangman, tic tac toe, never have I ever, would you rather, truth or dare...

He could feel the utter loathing of someone in the doorway as he strided into the library. The ghosts of the school give him a look as they pass to put up books they held or picked up along the way, and with one of those ghosts clearing the tables, he could see who it was most likely from. He looked at the student and, yes, noticed who he was, but his attention was drawn to the study material below him.
Oh, so it was Boesemani causing all that loathing in the air! He thought it was Goldfishie finally getting the letter he slipped into his textbook via a paper airplane.
Stepping up to the table of the other student is easy, and if he leans over from the other side to loom over the work of the other, it's not his business that he knocked over leftover books from whoever was here last. Floyd looks to Callaway as he notices the others pinched grimace, and his smile grows lazily at the corners of his mouth.
"Boesemani, it's really good to see you. I'd guessed by now that Goldfishie would have you locked in your room by now, with grades coming up and all!" He says it almost in a mischievous manner, reaching for Callaway's study material. "Whatcha got?"
He felt someone looming over him, and had the urge to sit up straight and correct his posture, but he was too annoyed tight now.
"Boesemani, it's really good to see you." Ah. Floyd Leech. He could tell by the voice, as well as the nautical nickname. "I'd guessed by now that Goldfishie would have you locked in your room by now, with grades coming up and all! Whatcha got?"
Clementine lifted his head and smiled, though it was obviously strained. "A headache, mostly." He grabbed his book and almost closed it, but sighed as he decided to keep it open.
"Would you happen to know anything about discrete mathematics? Failing that, would you happen to know Riddle's favourite chocolate?"
He batted his eyelashes up at Floyd, "... Or how to make a guy feel better?"
He seriously needed a break. If Floyd could help him understand this stuff then that would be great, but he wasn't really going to put up much of a fight if Floyd decided to derail this afternoon into something a bit more fun. He was kind of counting on it, honestly, with Floyd's reputation-- it seemed like he was in a good mood, so he was hoping for the best. And if he did get distracted, well, it wouldn't be his fault really. Floyd was the one who dragged him away from his work, after all.

Good, Silver responded.
It wasn't as if he could pester Lilia about dinner ingredients with his track record. The best option was a joint effort of sorts between at least two of the less-volatile cooks.
🐉> turnips for soup.
Something in particular perturbed him... How did 'Silver' make that little face? Others did this, but when he asked Lilia how to do it, he said something about him 'not being ready for that'.
Whatever that meant.
He wasn't eighty anymore.
🐉> how do you make the phone smile?
××××××× > turnips for soup.
××××××× > how do you make the phone smile?
Oh my god. This guy (or girl... person, really) was too cute. How do you make the phone smile? What an innocent question. Clementine couldn't help but laugh.
Well, who was he to deny someone the fruit of knowledge.
mwah ♡ - Mm, sounds delicious. I do hope i can have some when it's ready :)
mwah ♡ - To make the phone smile, you need to press the button by the spacebar, it will take you to a bunch of symbols you can combine into faces. Look, this one has a nose :o)
mwah ♡ - Why don't you try combining the symbols into something new? I'd love to see what you make :D
He couldn't wait to see what his mystery contact would show him. He hoped it was something interesting, something he had never seen before!
He did continue to wonder who this person thought he was, but he wasn't in a hurry, he could let the clues trickle down. He was hoping that the response to his request for soup would give him something to go off of, like maybe the person would respond 'sure, come downstairs in 15 minutes' or 'come on silly, you're halfway across the world'. Were they siblings, roommates, pen pals, lovers? And who was he texting, exactly? Were they cute? Were they powerful? He really could be talking to anyone...
Clementine flopped back into his pillows as he waited for the next texts, already daydreaming about mysterious princes in far off lands.
If there was anything Ember hated about his future role and his family’s name- it was the weight it carried.
Well… if he was honest with himself he hated many things about his fate, but he was anything but.
It wasn’t as if his family was incredibly well known. Once upon a time, yes. The Fates controlled your life, the three sisters, named for these forces, that he descended from knew every detail from the moment you were born to your last breath. You told people you were related to them and you were akin to a child of the Great Seven.
Nowadays, being a Parca was akin to being a… “Magicam celebrity”, as his sibling put it. If you had any interest in divination then, yes, you knew of the Parca family.
If you weren’t? Ember seemed to just be some weird man with a staring problem and a penchant for glowing gold. But, to receive a fortune would still give you bragging rights.
All this to say, when the student who was being flirtatious and frustrating to his boyfriend came up to him, he had a suspicion about what he was going to ask for.
“Yes?” He said, eyes flickering up from his notebook for a moment, “…it’s Clementine, correct?”
“…it’s Clementine, correct?”
Ah, of course he knew who he was. He should have expected that, really-- after all, Clementine was a very catching person. Everyone should know who he was.
"It is." he smiled brighter. "I was hoping you would grant me the honor of receiving a reading from you. I'm prepared to compensate you, of course." his manicured hand tucked a wavy orange lock behind his ear. His hair was down today, falling across his shoulders like a waterfall, though his bangs were still clipped to the side. His makeup was light, but present-- he wanted to get ready quickly, before Ember might leave.
Though, receiving a reading out here simply wouldn't do. As soon as Ember accepted (as he was sure he would), he would suggest they move somewhere quieter, more private-- they should probably go to his room. Of course, his preparation had included tidying up a bit, in anticipation of that development. A few things under his pillow here, some boxes of chocolate in the trash there.
Solaris rolled his eyes as Clementine blew him a kiss. Honestly, he wasn't expecting anything different, but it was annoying to have such a false display of affection thrown around, especially at him.
"If I truly cared, you would have gotten a better gift. As I said, do not think too much of this, I am simply being courteous." He explained, frowning as Clementine clearly mocked his mannerisms.
"You must think yourself to be quite the comedian. I suggest you find a clown costume to fit your attitude." He huffed, having wished he hadn't bothered at all. Clementine was not someone he really considered to be a friend. But, because he happened to know him, he was trying to be polite, as his parents had taught him to be.
But with some people, even the thought did not count, as it so clearly seemed to be with this weirdo who thought ghosts were into him via trying to kill him.
Clementine's face darkened. Just who did this guy think he was talking to, exactly? And on his birthday, of all days!
Well. "Birthday".
"Aw, there's so need to be so shy~" Clementine's voice was sweet, though he was no longer smiling, "If you think I'd look good as a pierrot, you can just say that, you know. Though, I'm not sure having two clowns would be appropriate for today" he eyed Solaris's outfit up and down.
"I should rather be the ringmaster, or a tightrope walker-- I need to stand out on my special day, you know? But we can match another time, how does that sound?" He reached up to Pat Solaris's head. He hoped he was angry.
this is moar of a silly post but . i saw a moodboard challenge that was " pick a random gallery folder and you can only use photos from that folder " . so this is a clementine moodboard from my reaction images folder 💋💕

He didn’t mean anything by it, just saved time to call him Clem. Less syllables, easier to say. Not that he felt any obligation to explain himself, but he didn’t want Callaway getting the wrong idea. They weren’t warming up to each other just yet, maybe not at all. Even if Jinx was letting him touch his hair.
“Nah. I usually give people nicknames, just easier to remember them in my head that way,” he explained. It was easier to sort when he named people himself. Save for Rove whose name was too short to make something out of, there was hardly anyone he met who hadn’t earned a nickname (or insult), “And… yeah, duh. But I’d let you down easy, since I’m nice like that.”
Actually he’d probably laugh in Clementine’s face, because there’s no universe where that isn’t a joke. Guys like them were too different, and he had his eye on someone else after all. He didn’t spare Ember another glance though, he was teased enough for his obvious crush on his boyfriend.
It took him a second to notice Clem had gone dead in the eyes, like he was mulling something over. That look sent a chill up his spine. He gently grabbed the other student’s hand and unwound his hair from his grip.
“… Chill out man.”
“… Chill out man.”
Jinx's hand moving his cleared his head.
He fanned his newly empty hand to examine his fingernails. "Let me down easy? Aren't you a darling. And here I thought you didn't care about my poor feelings." He continued to smile, but his tone turned sour as he continued, "I guess I'm pretty enough for that, at least." he hadn't forgotten what Jinx had said to him. He glanced at the guy across the room, but still couldn't get a clear picture of him. How was he supposed to know what he was competing against here?
Still, he was glad to hear Jinx say it. That proved that he had a crush on the guy-- why else would he reject him? Apart from his already established bad taste, of course. Yes, it could have been as simple as that.
"So that's your type, huh? Dark hair, shoulder length? I’ll bet he's smart, too. Or, let me guess, he's the strong and silent type. Go on, tell me all about him." He spun a strand of his own hair around a finger, crossing his legs and batting his eyelashes. It was always cute to hear people gush about their crushes. And he didn't feel like talking about himself would impress Jinx at the moment, so he didn't want to. Of course, Clementine was a very impressive person, but you couldn't just say 'I have all these expensive things' and 'I'm talented in all these ways' without it coming up in conversation first. To blurt them out apropos of nothing would be excruciatingly daft-- he had no shame in being confident, but few favoured braggarts.
Trying to pin down who Ember was as a person and why exactly Jinx liked him was way too complicated of an answer than Clem probably wanted to hear. He shouldn’t be sticking his nose where it doesn’t belong anyway, but that’s besides the point. It’s hard to sum up someone in just a couple of sentences, and it’s even harder to talk about your feelings with someone who was teasing your for them just a moment ago.
“He’s not strong, and he’s not silent. He never shuts his mouth when he should, actually. Book smart, but kind of a moron everywhere else,” he leans back in his chair, “He’s a homeschooled weirdo who collects dead things in his bedroom. We hardly ever got along our first year, but now, I suppose we’re friends.”
That sounds mean and he knows it, but it was the truth. The truth can be offputting to some people, especially people like Clementine. At least it emphasized that Clem was not his type. Not that he had a type, given his track history. He’d dated all sorts.
“He gave me a dead rat for my birthday last year, and that’s when I decided I liked him,” he explained, even though that detail wasn’t true. He didn’t know he had a crush on Ember, and then fought against it for a long time, “He’ll tell you your future, for a price.”
May as well slip a promo in there, not like Ember needed it. Clem was easy money though, and he had half a mind to tell Ember to charge him extra.
“He’s a homeschooled weirdo who collects dead things in his bedroom. We hardly ever got along our first year, but now, I suppose we’re friends.”
Ough. Jinx really did have awful taste. He supposed they deserved eachother...
“He gave me a dead rat for my birthday last year, and that’s when I decided I liked him,” seriously!? Egad... Clementine was actually glad Jinx said he wasn't pretty at this point. Well, it still wasn't very nice to hear... but it was seeming more and more like a compliment as their conversation went on. Is that what Jinx considered pretty? Dead rats? Clementine certainly had more class than that. “He’ll tell you your future, for a price.” Oh, sure. And he had a pet flying monkey. It wasn't likely that there was someone like that around, and less likely that that someone was sitting across the room.
"I'll... keep that in mind" Clementine said, to the whole of it. Maybe he could take Jinx under his wing, reform him. Give him a makeover, show him there was more out there for him than dead rats and morons. He was certainly pretty enough. He had never met a Pomefiore student that didn't look good, actually-- not that there weren't some hotties in Heartslabyul.
"Listen, Jinxie, you've got such soft hair, and really dazzling eyes. Your skin is soft, too, and you seem to have a sense for both style and humor. Honestly, you could do much better than..." he coughed pointedtly, smiling an intentionally obvious fake smile. "I could link you up with a few friends of mine, see if you're keen on any of them. They're not super into charity cases, but I think they'll see the potential that I do" he brought his phone out and started looking through his contacts. Professor Crewel wasn't in the immediate vicinity, so he felt safe enough, but he did aim to make it quick.
"Or you know-- I met this wonderful guy in town the other day, just too cute. He has dark hair too, and he was wearing kind of a goth-y shirt. Do you want me to give you his number?" he tilted his head, smiling, happy to help.
He didn’t mean anything by it, just saved time to call him Clem. Less syllables, easier to say. Not that he felt any obligation to explain himself, but he didn’t want Callaway getting the wrong idea. To blurt them out apropos of nothing would be excruciatingly daft-- he had no shame in being confident, but few favoured braggarts.
He rolled his eyes as Clementine suggested that he would enjoy the view if he climbed up there. How full of yourself could one person be? Apparently a lot more than he had originally assumed. Solaris was of the mindset that your hard work and accomplishments should do the bragging for you, talking yourself up to others was pointless.
"I have no interest in watching you climb up there. I simply suggested it because you are smaller and lighter. If the ladder is compromised, it has more chance of breaking if I were to climb it." He stated, matter of factly. "It was also your suggestion, might I add."
In truth, he wanted Clementine to climb up there to find out that the barrier most likely encircled the entire storage room and get him out of his hair for a moment so he could think of a solution without a certain someone talking about how desirable they were yet wished to do no work. A ridiculous mindset, if you asked him.
Solaris pulled out his phone, hoping to text one of his fellow club members about what was happening and to hopefully provide outside assistance. Perhaps the barrier was weaker on the outside?
His expression fell as his message did not go through, then saw his phone had no signal. Great. This thing really wanted them dead.
"I cannot reach anyone, the barrier is blocking communication as well" He informed Clementine as he tucked his phone away.
'No interest' he says. Clementine's eyebrow twitched down. This guy was getting kind of boring. It was hard to argue his reasons though-- a lighter climber was a reasonable choice, and Clementine had suggested it... this wasn't going the way he wanted it to. He hadn't thought of those things.
He still wasn't getting on that ladder, though. Or, maybe he should? If it broke and he got hurt, he could make the guy feel bad. Or maybe the guy would swoop in and catch him, though Clementine wasn't counting on it.
"I cannot reach anyone, the barrier is blocking communication as well"
Oh. The guy had tried his phone, that was smart. Clementine checked his own cell and found that he didn't have any signal either. If only he could break one of the queen's rules from here, in a way that Riddle would know about it. Riddle would find a way to get them out just to off their heads...
"So mean..." he mumbled to himself (about Solaris), trying to figure out what to do next. It would be kind of fun to fall on purpose, if the guy would catch him. And if he didn't catch him, he could really play it up and get out of doing anything further-- sorry, I'm hurt, you'll have to find us a way out of here yourself. But... Clementine didn't want to get hurt for realsies. Maybe it wasn't worth it.
He moved back and sat against the wall (posture perfect as always), closing his eyes and putting his hands in his lap. It was only a matter of time before someone realized they were gone. Surely all they had to do was wait to be rescued.
"What’s your name?" he asked abruptly. If they were going to wait this out together, they should at least know eachother's names.

Nightraven University housed a very high end selection of students. Among them were princes, heirs, celebrities, not to mention Clementine himself.
He had heard of him around school. Ember Parca. Apparently he was to become the next Oracle, blessed with the gift of powerful clairvoyance. And apparently, he was open for readings.
Clementine didn't care how much he had to pay, he wanted a reading, just to be able to say that he got one. A reading from the future Oracle... what an honor, what an occasion, what a talking point at dinner parties for years to come.
He wasn't really taking this all that seriously. It was a novelty to him, at best. He was kind of curious to hear what would be said about his future, because he didn't have any plans for it himself (except for maybe one), so maybe he'd hear something interesting. But he wasn't sure if he believed in stuff like this, honestly... he was open to the idea of it, but definitely not sold.
When he got the tip that Ember usually hung out in a secluded corner of the courtyard, he got ready immediately, and quickly went over to see if he was there. Someone was. It looked like Jinxie's little boyfriend. So it was true. Were they seriously the same person...? That was interesting and a half.
Gracefully, he strode over to where Ember was seated. "Good afternoon. Ember Parca?" He tilted his head sweetly, smiling softly. The picture of innocence.
A generic cardboard box is slid across the table to Clem. Wordlessly, Jinx waits for him to open it.
Inside is a poorly taxidermied rat with its skin pulled too tight over the fake skeleton, and its mismatched glass eyes both too big and too small for their sockets. The price tag from the thrift store is still attached: 1.25 thaumarks. It comes with a hot pink post-it note that reads: This reminded me of you. HBD. Jinx.
The universe was testing him. Specifically, his acting skills. It was hard to keep a smile on his face when he opened the... gift, but he kept it pinned, though his eyes were wide. He was silent for a few moments, closing his eyes. Had some nobody given him this, he would not have taken it so well. But he and Jinx had already built up a bit of a rapport. And he didn't want to give Jinx the expected reaction, whatever that was (a scream or a wretch, he could guess).
"You know, I've heard that gifts really say more about the giver than the receiver, actually." he tilted his head, still smiling. "And don't worry about it," he spoke in a hushed tone, as if he was trying not to be heard so he wouldn't embarass Jinx, "I know it's all you could afford."
He spoke at a normal volume now, and blew him a kiss, "Thanks, Jinxie! ♡"

”I suppose birthday wishes are in order. Though do not think too far into it, as you seem to excel in doing….” He hands Clementine some generic bath set you can find literally anywhere.
Clementine glances at the bathset, immediately recognizing it as generic (he won't use any of it), but otherwise doesn't take his half lidded eyes off of Solaris. "Aaw, Sol, you do care". As usual, there is a slightly mocking undercurrent to his enthusiastic words.
He blows Solaris a kiss, and plans on picking an Ignihyde student to give the set to, as a backhanded gift. Not today, though, of course. Today was his day.
"I suppose a thanks is in order. Thank you, Sol." he bowed gracefully, though Solaris might have been able to tell Clem was poking fun at his formality. What a wonderful gift. The gift of laughter he'd get later.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CLEMENTINE !! 💖🍊💖
fun birthday facts about clem !! :D
clementine wasnt invited to a birthday party once , so he messaged all tha guests pretending to be tha host and told everyone it was canceled . as a result , no one showed up ♡
clementine once had a birthday party where no one showed up but a single classmate ( he invited tha whole class ) . he was inconsolable . but he and that classmate ended up going around town and blowing a lot of money doing fun ritzy things , and clementine showered them in expensive goody bag items . tha next day at school that classmate showed off the things clementine gave him , and talked about all the amazing things they got to do . everyone wanted to come to his next birthday party , and clementine took great satisfaction in rejecting people while curating his new exclusive guest list . that classmate is still a dear online friend to clementine , though they no longer live near eachother
clementine's " birthday " is , of course , something fabricated ( he loves that word ) . no one knows when his real date of birth is , not even himself
on his " birthday " , at the orphanage , he got a clementine every year from the ages of 4 - 9 . to this day , every year on his birthday , he eats a clementine . its a rule
he has a lot of birthday rules , actually , liek doing his sevens for every year he was born before he gets out of bed , or having to blow out his candles at an angel number . his candles can only be orange and / or pink , even if they clash with tha party's theme , though that hasnt happened yet
he's scared of getting older because he's afraid it'll make him less desirable
clementine loves spending money on other ppl , because he loves showing off his wealth . if its ur birthday , get ready for him to insist on paying for everything . its your birthday !! his treat ♡
if you know clem and dont wish him a happy birthday when you see him , hes going to ignore you for at least a week
his favourite cakes are tres leches , tiramisu , and german black forest cake , but hes happy with anything as long as its expensive really
he always has a Special Birthday Outfit :o)
