Please help Asante Sana For Education in their mission to help Seratiani, a Maasai girl from Minindi, Tanzania who is suffering from a severe case of elephantiasis. At the moment, Seratiani is in a hospital in Kenya preparing for an 8-hour surgery to remove the excess tissue. Then, after going through a long 3-5 week recovery, @asantesanaforeducation will return her to her daughter and village. Next year she will have another surgery to reconstruct her foot that has been badly damaged as a result of her deformed leg. In order to cover her approximate 2 months in the hospital, her transportation to and from Tanzania and Kenya, her multiple surgeries, a lifetime supply of compression stockings, and an education fund her daughter Ruth, we are setting a goal of $10,000. I have left a little piece of my heart in Tanzania. I am so extremely grateful for the last three weeks and for all of the new friends working with @asantesanaforeducation brought me. This trip has enlightened my life in a way I didn't even know was possible. UPDATE: I'm in Africa I have officially stepped foot on my 4th continent and 8th country! Tanzania, I have arrived!!🇹🇿 I am so beyond excited to be working and living in the beautiful city of Bagamoyo for the next three weeks. Tanzania is so different from any other place I have visited before. After arriving and driving through Dar Es Salaam to Bagamoyo, it was a very surreal experience. It hit me about 10 minutes into our bus ride, I'm in Africa! I came into this trip not having expeditions, but driving through the city was nothing how I pictured it to be. I surprised to see the amount of people out and about in the city. I was surprised by the fact that some people were dressed in western clothes (jeans and teeshirts) while others were in traditional clothing. There was many stores, shops, markets, and stands that we passed. Selling things from fruit to shoes. One of my favorite moments upon arrival was sitting on the bus and Ashley buying us ice cream from a man selling them on his bike driving down the middle of the road. Priceless. However, I could not be more excited to see what this journey has to offer. I am so grateful and blessed to have this experience. Never would I have dreamed of having the opportunity to visit and learn in so many beautiful and unique places by the time I was 20. I am truly thankful to everyone who has supported my dreams of travel. This trip is a huge check ofMf my bucket list and I am excited to see what else is in store for me!

Photo Diary: Statue of Liberty Skylines are quickly becoming my thing. Observing the Manhattan skyline from the boat to Liberty and Ellis island was quite a treat. But so was (finally) seeing my #WCW Lady Liberty. Being the history nerd I am, I was in heaven on Ellis island learning about immigration into the US...there is a lot to be learned out there, folks!

Photo Diary: World Trade Center, Ground Zero & 9/11 Museum An afternoon full of many emotions, tears and patriotism. However, it was wandering through the museum when I truly understood the importance of traveling. I learned more about 9/11, our country, and the events that led up to this tragic day in the 2 hours I spent in the museum than I had in 8 years of history classes. That's not to say that my teachers haven't done a good job of teaching, rather, you learn so much more when you experience it yourself. Seeing the mangled parts of the building where the plane crashed into it, making my knees buckle. Understanding the fear and terror the victims felt when listening to their voice mails to their loved ones. Being surrounded by emotions when reading about the police and fire heroes who risked their lives to save those in need. I became overwhelmed with anger when I learned the motives behind the hijackers and the awful terror group who devastated our country. Who made us feel unsafe in our home. But those emotions and those moments, the moments when goosebumps covered my body as I was reading and listening while in the museum are going to be the moments I remember. The reason I understand 9/11 now. Could you imagine if everyone got that opportunity? To explore and learn. Could you imagine how much more intelligent our society would be? Could you imagine? I can.

Exploring local markets has also quickly become one of my favorite things to do while traveling. It allows you to become familiar with the local style, gives opportunity to talk and mingle with the vendors and shoppers, gaining insight to their daily lives. You can realize, even within the same country that others ways of living are uniquely different from your own.
