Costa Rica is aptly named. Christopher Columbus dubbed the land the βrich coastβ when he landed on the eastern shore in 1502, noting the vast amounts of gold so coveted by the colonial settlers. Costa Rica, however, was not only rich in gold, but in land, flora, fauna, and all manner of wildlife. While Columbus brutally extracted gold from the earth and its inhabitants, changing the future of the indigenous forever, Costa Rica has maintained its traditional biodiversity. During my one week journey to Costa Rica I saw so much of this diversity, and I didnβt even step into the heart of Tico culture.
This was my first visit to Costa Rica, and it was also my first family trip since I was a child, so it was doubly exciting. I went with my Dad, Aunt, and Brother and we stayed at a 5 star resort calledΒ Riu Guanacaste. My preferred method of travel is βoff the beaten path,β but for a family trip an all-inclusive can be an easier way to please everyone, and if you do like the all-inclusive route, Riu Guanacaste is a great place to be.
