my favorite movie of all time. watched it for the first time was absolutely motherfucking blown away. i wish that i could go back and relive it for the first time. WAS IT LIKE THAT FOR YOU? also the original soundtrack…. fucking masterpiece

wish I could intellectualize what I think about this movie better but I can't so here it is...

i picked remmick’s quote as my favorite. i honestly feel like i owe Ryan Coogler my life. this movie really helped me deconstruct christianity after i had already been disconnecting from it for a while, but hearing that line really put the nail in the coffin for me.

it also pushed me to learn more about my ancestors’ history — who were witches, healers, and spiritual people. when delta slim says “it’s magic what we do,” that line stuck with me. if you really think about it, this is a very dangerous movie. not dangerous to people who only see things on the surface. but to people who have had the veil lifted from their eyes, they understand that this movie was a quiet awakening for a generation.

do you really think ryan coogler just put that in the screenplay for fun?

he’s very good at making what he calls “grilled cheese” movies — movies that are accessible, that people will want to watch, movies that sell. he knows exactly what makes a film work.

- j cody… i get it man but whyyyy. i started to rewatch for the second time and I noticed that when Julia dies he finishes the show, does the dishes, does his homework before he calls Smurf. He doesn’t cry he doesn’t panic. Even Nikki asked do you wanna cry because your mom died??? That confused the fuck out of me and probably should’ve told us a lot about his mental state.

-i relate to craig so much bc i too am the druggie loser sibling that is there for the plot :) i really love how his character matured tho.

-pope cody somehow he becomes your favorite character and you have no clue why

-that last motherfucking episode. state of love, bonding, real friendship! 10/10 episode. grade A acting. the shot of j in thailand alone is just haunting, he has no one

📀ended way too early, definitely needed a few more seasons. i really liked this show. i’ve only watched it once, and i need to do another rewatch. i also think it came out before all of the conversations around did and suddenly everybody saying they have an alter system.

📀steady are you reaadyyy? coldest opening title scene hands down.

lol when you really rewatch the movie as an adult, you realize that the narration and some of the plot isn’t really fleshed out.

but i will say the cinematography makes up for everything. to me the underlying themes are knowledge being power and how..... you know what i really don’t fucking know.

💿this movie is so visceral and is realistic to the prison complex. reason why i put that as my favorite quote is because this is what they tell us

the prison system is good for you and then it ends up doing the exact opposite keeping people with no mental health resources, "this is not a punishment. it's for your own good.”

the school to prison pipeline. it shows how the staff burnout and how sick the whole system is. there's a terrible rape scene and then davis proceeds to be ignored as most men in society are when they are sexually assaulted.davis not wanting his mom to sue the institution as he knows it wont do anything. not sure why i keep rewatching, i think it's a comfort movie somehow.

my favorite scene is when the riot breaks out. i think it's because butch just did what he wanted? he defended himself. and butch didnt snitch after that fucked up eye. the special effects are pretty good.

when butch takes the drugs away and beats up the bullies, we see them being happy seeing a glimpse of what rehabilitation can look like. violence begets more violence.
