Final blog entry: Dreams do come true

As of right now, I’m thousands of feet above the ground, both literally and figuratively. I’m on my way back to Puerto Rico after an amazing week in Los Angeles working with Blake Neely and meeting some great people. Hard to believe everything started a little over a month ago.
People always say that you’re never going to find things when you’re looking for them, and that the best things come unexpectedly; you can’t plan for them. But I’ve always been a believer that “luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity,” and that it’s not so much about being in the right place at the right time, but about being ready for when that moment comes. I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it to Blake’s film scoring workshop in Puerto Rico because I had a surgery scheduled, which then got canceled. If for some reason I hadn’t made it to the workshop, or if I hadn’t put effort into finding someone to lend me equipment so that I could do the homework Blake gave us during the workshop, I wouldn’t be on a plane right now. None of this would’ve happened. But even if I had been there, and I would’ve had all of my equipment, if I hadn’t spent all those days and nights writing music, reading film scoring books, studying scores, and getting my hands on every film composer interview that I could, I wouldn’t have been ready for the opportunity that came up, and maybe Blake wouldn’t have noticed me.
It’s not about being there - anybody can be there, at the right time and place. But as my good friend Ray taught me, it’s about who wants it more. I want it more than anything in my whole life. I left Puerto Rico a week ago, knowing that no matter what happened this week I’d come back with a new experience to share and new knowledge to apply. Today I leave knowing that I’ll be coming back to what will become my new home, LA, working side by side with one of the film composers I admire most. I went from being a student on a simple film scoring workshop led by Blake Neely, to becoming part of his team. All within a month, and out of the blue.
I would always hear those stories of how someone would find a new talented person and make it happen for them, and I’d always think, “Yeah, right, like that’ll ever happen.” And yet here I am. I became one of those stories.
If it happened for me, it can happen for you, too. But like Ray said, to make it happen, you just need to want it more. If you don’t believe that dreams like these can happen, and that you don’t have a way out, it’s time to change your mindset. I’m proof that it can happen. — René G. Boscio

Ahora mismo me encuentro miles de pies sobre tierra, tanto literal como hipotéticamente. Estoy de regreso a Puerto Rico luego de esta semana tan increíble en Los Ángeles trabajando con Blake, conociendo tremendas personas, y todo comenzó tan siquiera un mes atrás.
