I've always wanted to have one of my drawings used for the cover of a novel, so this was pretty exciting for me, especially since I really enjoyed Hamdy el-Gazzar's first novel, Black Magic.

I guess this one's been out for a while now; i've been struggling to catch up with things, as usual. It tells the story of a 'three-day sex, drink, and drug binge of a thirty-something newsreader in the back streets and crumbling apartments of his native Giza--that pullulating mass of humanity that, like an ugly sister, sits opposite Cairo on the Nile's West bank...a world of menace and wonder inhabited by philosophical prostitutes, nightmarish butchers, serene Quran-readers, pious family members, religious conmen, autistic tissue-sellers, and others.'
