Why I don’t believe you can move an object with the power of thought

I’ve often thought about this, and I’ve come to the conclusion that telekinesis, in the form it’s usually presented - “I look at an object and it moves” - is not a completely accurate understanding of how the influence of consciousness on matter works.

Why it doesn’t work as the power of thought.

When we try to move a static object with our thoughts, we encounter a fundamental mismatch between the levels of reality. Imagine you’re trying to move a tank with a feather. The feather may touch the tank, but the tank won’t move. Similarly, thought is an energy of a different order than the kinetic energy of motion.

A static object has zero motion energy. Thought, no matter how powerful it may be, cannot create this energy out of nothing, because thought operates at the level of information, intention, and probabilities, not at the level of physical force.

What do we actually do when we try to move an object?

In fact, when we focus on an object and try to move it, we:

1. Charge it with our energy.

2. Pay it extra attention

3. Create an energy “mark” that can turn this object into an amulet or a conduit.

But the object itself won’t move. This isn’t a lack of power; it’s simply not the level at which the influence works.

What can be moved

But what can truly be directed is what is already moving. For example:

· Air currents.

· Fire.

· Water.

· Energy flows in the astral plane.

Why does this work? Because here we are not working with creating movement from nothing, but with managing the probabilities of movement. It’s similar to a randomizer: if you think of the number 5 and keep clicking the random number generator, you’ll soon get a number close to 5. You don’t create the movement itself — you direct an already existing flow in the desired direction.

Why it’s easier to control the elements

In the case of fire or air, we have:

· An already existing dynamic.

· A probabilistic field that can be intervened in.

· Threads that connect the element with your intention.

You don’t push fire — you direct its probabilities. This isn’t “the power of thought” in the literal sense, but work with subtle connections.

Telekinesis in the classical sense (moving a static object with the power of thought) is not what I work with. But controlling the probabilities of movement, directing elements, and working with already moving currents is real and even natural for me.

We don’t move a tank with a feather. We learn to see where the wind is already blowing and direct it in the right direction.

For all of my Carrie fans, do ya’ll have any worldbuilding headcanons for how women/girls with the telekinetic gene would be viewed by society? Do ya’ll think they would get discriminated against, especially after learning about the Black Prom tragedy?

I personally feel like it would depend on how the government treats them and what kind of rights or laws would get regulated around telekinesis. I know that in the book, scientists and medical researchers investigating telekinesis were working on isolating the gene for telekinesis, and basically they were going to do mandatory testing for the TK gene so they could find TK positive girls and execute them or something. Basically a genocide against TK women, which I think is a crazy terrible idea, but realistic.

Telekinesis would be very empowering for women/girls in a largely patriarchal society run by corrupt men. TK women would be considered a danger to the patriarchy, so I could definitely see the military or a bunch of corrupt men trying to kill as many TK girls as possible. Mind you, in the book it was said that they’re going to be testing on children who first enter kindergarten. So the government would be doing a genocide against a bunch of little girls all because of an ability that they didn’t ask for.

But it could also be different for other countries too, especially when you factor in culture, laws, and religion. In some countries, TK women could be seen as goddesses or even blessed by God with “divine power”. I can also see there being organizations or communities where women with telekinetic ability can join and have a safe space away from the dangers of the outside world. I imagine Carrie White would be a very important figure not only in history, but also in the TK community too. A lot of abuse victims themselves would likely see Carrie as a hero, especially feminist hero.

I. Introduction

In this informational post, I'll be explaining telekinetic "magic". What it is, how it works and what types exist. I've noticed the lack of real telekinesis posts, and it's irritated me a ton. So here's something real beginners can work off of.

II. What is kinesis?

The word kinesis originates from the Greek word of the same name, meaning movement or motion. Practicing kinesis entails a person who practices motion of a set element or thing. Telekinesis is the most common example of this. Telekinesis is an umbrella term that means moving things only using your mind.

III. What are the types?

Here's all the common kinesis types. These are not all the kinesis types, but they are the most well known.

Telekinesis (controling objects with the mind)

Pyrokinesis (controling fire) , Hydrokinesis (controling water) , Aerokinesis (controling wind) , Geokinesis (controling earth/stone)

Cyrokinesis (controling ice) , Electrokinesis (controling electricity)

Photokinesis (controling light) , Umbrakinesis (controling darkness)

Biokinesis (controling living tissue) , Chronokinesis (controling time)

For example, I practice both Aerokinises and Pyrokinises. Which means I control wind and fire. Another example would be Mono from Little Nightmares 2, he controls TV's and static, which is Electrokinesis.

IV. How do I find out which one I am? How does this work?

Firstly, figure what you're drawn to. Is it light? Or water? Do you want to brush up on time control? Maybe you just want to practice moving objects.

Second, practice, try it out, always always practice. Practice consistently, if you no longer feel drawn to one, try another. Be CONSISTENT! Magic doesn't happen overnight... technically. Always practice, practice as much as you want, maybe one day you're not feeling it, that's alright, practice the next day. Do what you can.

Third, transfer to bigger things. Instead of moving things like paper or pens, try books. Instead of moving wind in a patch of grass, try a whole field.

Fourth, congrats, by this time you've mastered the art of movement!

Never give up practices. They take time to learn and even more time to master. So don't give up!
