“Okay that’s gross,” Ciara said, “People can be so dumb. We’re humans not squirrels. We can’t hold a lot in our cheeks.”

“Oh no, it wouldn’t be that good. I’m not that smart.”

“Do you know what? She did,” Ciara said, laughing, “I never thought to call an animal out on manners before. Some of them really don’t.”

“Sure it has but you’re not gonna make it any better by starting fights with people before they’ve even opened their mouths,” Ciara said, “I mean no offence that is. I can be the same with my temper but it definitely doesn’t help.”

Ciara couldn’t help but laugh, “Thanks,” She said, “I mean, I can’t take credit. It’s not like I gave myself this powers but thanks anyway,” She thought for a moment, “One time a toad asked me to tickle her back, does that count as strange?”

Ciara laughed, “Clearly I need to write you up a fact book or something.”

“I don’t know. You seem like you wanted company and I want company most when something is wrong,” Ciara grimaced and shook her head, “Sorry. It’s probably none of my business anyway and even if there was something wrong, it’s bad of me to assume. I’m working on that.”

“How does roasting marshmallows turn into a bad experience?” Ciara asked, “Is that even possible?”

Ciara shook her head, “Nope,” She spotted the puppy and focused for a second, “His name is Franklin by the way. That might get his attention. But he also seems pretty stuck, do you want me to try and get him? I’m pretty small, I could probably reach him.”

“I don’t actually know anything about you including your name so I don’t know if I’ve read any of your pieces. Do you normally start conversations this way?”

Ciara furrowed her brow, “Sorry, do I know you?”

“It’s not like I haven’t told you a number of times,” Ciara said with a teasing and sarcastic smile.

“To be honest, I’m not exactly sure,” Ciara said, “I thought I was bit of a late bloomer when it came to my powers, especially compared to my siblings, but I was always able to just know what animals wanted or needed. I guess I thought it was just me guessing correctly a lot but maybe they were just communicating with me,” She explained, “I mean, sometimes it sounds like I can hear what’s going on in their head like actual telepathy but other times, it’s like a feeling. I don’t know how to describe it but I just know what they’re thinking or asking or wanting for.”

“Is everything okay?” Ciara asked after a moment.

“They don’t have brains or a language so it's more difficult. Some forms of jellyfish can communicate by flashing lights and I managed to understand them but not communicate back Not all of them are like that though.”

“Nope,” Ciara said, “Just walking. Sorry if I made you think that.”

“Like I said, animals and stuff,” Ciara said, “I have animal telepathy. Seems obvious but that’s me.”
