JADEN: Itâs crazy, the sibling dynamic. I couldâve spent my entire childhood like, âI have to love this person.â And it becomes a chore. But our parents were never like, âYou have to love them.â It was more like, âYou have your life. He has his life. And when you guys want to come together, when you guys want to commune, thatâs up to you.â And throughout us realizing ourselves and realizing each other, we just opened our eyes and were like, âDamn, you are the yin to my yang.â Not a lot of siblings have that opportunity, because theyâre always being pushed together so much. They need their time apart in order to realize themselves and realize who they are. PHARRELL: Has there ever been, like, some love-based competition? JADEN: We never really felt competitive because Willowâs always been better than me at everything. Thereâs been no competition. WILLOW: [laughs] Pharrell, that is so not true.

So. Overwhelmed. Every. Day. Bonus Panel, Instagram
Researchers have known for some time that the brain is like a muscle; that the more you use it the more it grows. Theyâve found that neural connections form and deepen most when we make mistakes doing difficult tasks rather than repeatedly having success with easy ones. What this means is that our intelligence is not fixed: and the best way that we can grow our intelligence is to embrace tasks where we might struggle and fail. However, not everyone realizes this. Dr. Carol Dweck of Stanford University has been studying peopleâs mindsets towards learning for decades. She has found that most people adhere to one of two mindsets: fixed or growth. Fixed mindsets mistakenly believe that people are either smart or not; that intelligence is fixed by genes. People with growth mindsets correctly believe that capability and intelligence can be grown through effort, struggle and failure. Dweck found that those with a fixed mindset tended to focus their effort on tasks where they had a high likelihood of success and avoided tasks where they may have had to struggle, which limited their learning. People with a growth mindset, however, embraced challenges, and understood that tenacity and effort could change their learning outcomes. As you can imagine, this correlated with the latter group more actively pushing themselves and growing intellectually. The good news is that mindsets can be taught; theyâre malleable. Whatâs really fascinating is that Dweck and others have developed techniques that they call âgrowth mindset interventionsâ which have shown that even small changes in communication or seemingly innocuous comments can have fairly longÂ-lasting implications for a personâs mindset. For instance, praising someoneâs process (âI really like how you struggled with that problemâ) versus praising an innate trait or talent (âYouâre so clever!â) is one way to reinforce a growth Âmindset with someone. Process praise acknowledges the effort; talent praise reinforces the notion that one only succeeds (or doesnât) based on a fixed trait.

Itâs a pity they didnât cast Ryan Reynolds as Jay Gatsby, seeing as heâs both the green lantern and Deadpool.
