crying specifically over how the end of pacific rim goes about wrapping up mako’s emotional narrative with a direct parallel between two scenes: 1. little mako, alone, calling out for her parents after the kaiju attack. stacker finds her but that’s not who she’s looking for, and 2. adult mako coming out of her escape pod, looking around, and seeing that no one is there and that she’s alone again after a disaster. she’s finally avenged her parents, but now she’s lost stacker too?? there’s that gut-wrenching moment where she realizes that she’s still alone. and THEN!! to have raleigh RETURNED to her!!! alive!!! they’ve both lost the people closest to them and have been alone for a long time. for them to be together in that last scene, for them to have each other, restores mako’s faith. it quiets the crying child in her. raleigh coming back to mako proves to her that things change. we heal.
